Newnes Nos: 1 - XX - First 20 Volumes _________________________ Published: London; Burleigh Street, Strand/ George Newnes, 1891-1900 Physical Description: 20 volumes, illustrated Contents: First Sherlock Holmes, stories by Kipling, H.G.Wells, Jules Verne Language: English Size: Demy 8vo ________________________ Covers: The Demy 8vo volumes are uniformly bound in their original pictorial aqua cloth, gilt titling to spine. Front covers are lightly rubbed and bright and without staining or fading, rear covers with minor marks, minor shelf wear and sometimes small dents to edges, corners are a tad bumped and bent, spines are a tad darkened with some marks to varying degrees, minor creasing to head & foot ends, some with tiny close tears. Inside: Minor browning, spotting to verso of original yellow lining papers. Few volumes with white lining papers which have browned on one side. No inscriptions, names, bookplates or writing inside the volumes. Vast majority of the inner hinges are sound, except volumes nine & ten the front hinge is a tad weak and in volume eighteen much weaker. Text blocks all sound with no loose pages. Volume five with some stain blobs to pages 4-8 and page 647-648 is torn with loss, minor liquid staining to top margins in volume seven from pages 135-370, see pictures above. Intermittent foxing to varying degrees inside the volumes which are tightly bound. Overall the volumes are in very good condition. The books measure 24 cm x 17 cm.
