LONDON: SAMUEL BAGSTER, 1825. I have here for sale a book entitled STUDIES OF CHESS: CONTAINING A SYSTEMATIC INTRODUCTION TO THE GAME AND THE ANALYSIS OF CHESS by MR. PHILIDOR with COMMENTS AND DIAGRAMS. This sixth edition was published in 1825 by SAMUEL BAGSTER, London. Philidor (1726 1795) was a French chess player and was regarded as the best chess player of his age. His book Analyse du jeu des Echecs was considered a standard chess manual for a century and a well-known chess opening and a checkmate method are named after him. He was also the first to play blindfolded chess against two opponents simultaneously. Studies of Chess is filled with illustrated examples of game play, strategy, opening moves, and tips on winning, as well as analysis, commentary, and diagrams. Half bound in leather, but unfortunately both boards are detached. Spine covering is missing. Marbled fore-edges. The main body remains tightly bound with no loose or missing pages, pages clean and bright, 536pp 22cm x 14cm.
