Robert Burns
The Works of Robert Burns w/Essay By Professor Wilson Two Vols (1847)
Blackie And Son. The Works of Robert Burns w/Essay By Professor Wilson Two Vols (1847). These have been in a private collection for many years. The covers on both volumes do not stay in place very wel, as you can see in the photo someone attempted many years ago to repair it using some crude tape, it holds that volume. The binding remains very loosely connected to the spine, but only just. Despite that, it was still easy and not a risk to turn the pages (which I tried to do as little as possible to take the photos.) It appears this edition was printed in Glasgow! The covers and inside few first pages are spotted from what looks like moisture stains, but not enough that it ruins any of those early lithographs. I can provide more photos of the lithographs from this edition because they are stunning in their detail. You'll see they have been pressed against the tissue pages for so long they have left a slight faded watermark at times (example shown.) This is an excellent candidate for rebinding if the right expertise is interested in them. As far as I can tell this is truly one of a kind right now, I have been unsuccessful in finding another 1847 edition of this set anywhere. Please ask questions, it's an honor to be able to get this to an enthusiastic collector or expert in these antique and unique books.
