Item #5066 Gary, Indiana: 1972. Xerox with annotations on one page in an unknown hand. 8 ½ x 11 in., 7 pp., corner stapled, very good condition. Draft of a proposal for the structure of a body of representatives to serve as a black political organization. Written by Amiri Baraka and submitted to the 1972 National Black Political Convention, which issued a declaration stating how the American political system was failing Black Americans and the necessity of an independent Black politics. Published in The Amsterdam News two weeks after the convention, Baraka not just lays out his position but puts forward a formula for calculating the allocation of delegates for a proposed National Black Political Assembly.
