A Very Good or better copy of Charles Dana Gibson's DEBUT ALBUM OF DRAWINGS, simply titled "Drawings", containing 84 black and white drawings on unnumbered pages, most of which are full-page drawings (in addition to the drawing on the front cover and the drawing on the dedication page). The volume is in Very Good or better condition with a small library sticker top the front board, some general wear - including some loss at the spine ends, and his been professionally reinserted into its original case. A wonderful ASSOCIATION COPY which Gibson has inscribed on the dedication page to the great Dan Beard and has dated it in the year of publication. The inscription reads as follows: "to Dan Beard whose advice and friendship / is of the greatest value to his friend // C.D. Gibson // Dec. 1894." [The periods immediately following the "C", the "D" and "Dec" are written using tiny circles.] The drawings of American society by Charles Dana Gibson (1867-1944) defined the ideal of Female beauty for the late 19th and early 20th centuries during which his images of women were so influential on the development America's feminine style that the term "Gibson Girls" became part of the American lexicon. Gibson's first sale of his work was to Life magazine in 1866.
