1846 The American Flora or History of Plants and Wild Flowers, Strong & Bidwell
New York: Strong and Bidwell, 1846. Front board detached, rear hinge cracked and has some splitting about 2 inches in length at upper part of hinge, about 2 inches of the leather at the top spine is torn and separated from the spine, board corners bumped with some loss of leather at corners, scuffs to leather of boards. A piece of the leather, about 1 1/2 inches long, is detached from the bottom spine but present. (It became detached after the book was photographed. It can be seen in the photograph as sticking out from the bottom spine.) Gilt text and decoration on spine is darkened and worn. The front endpaper has browning along its fore-edge and some chipping. The fore edges of the next 3 pages also have some chipping along their fore-edges. Many of the text pages have some light soiling. The first six pages and the last nine pages have considerable foxing and tanning and/or soiling, more so than to the more interior pages. Strong, M.D. Botanist Published by Strong and Bidwell, New York, 1846. Vol. I, 137 pages plus an advertisement for future issues, index pp. i-iv and 50 hand colored plates and hand colored frontis and extra title page. Plate pages are not numbered and are in addition to the 137 pages. Bound in original brownish black leather with gilt decoration front and back and gilt title and decoration on spine.
