HEANEY, Seamus; Thomas Flanagan, Benedict Kiely, Sean White, & June K Davison
A Tribute to Kevin Sullivan.
New York: [Privately printed,], 1991. Octavo, pp. 18. Original pale grey wrappers, titles to front wrapper within frame in black. Touch of light foxing to wrappers, else a fine copy. First edition, number 3 of 25 copies signed by all five contributors to the title page. An unsigned issue was also released in an unrecorded run. The tribute reproduces the speeches given at the memorial reading for Sullivan at Queen's College, New York, on 2 May 1988. Heaney became friends with Sullivan, a Jesuit literary scholar best known for his magnum opus Joyce Among the Jesuits (1958), in the early 1970s through their mutual friendship with fellow Irish authors Thomas Flanagan and Benedict Kiely. Just five copies, believed to be unsigned, have been traced institutionally: all of which are held in the US, excepting the copy held at the National Library of Ireland. Brandes & Durkan B108.
Bookseller: Peter Harrington [United Kingdom]
