[Holy Land] Minguet, Pablo
Descripción geografico historica de la Tierra Santa, o Palestina
1771. Madrid. Imprenta del Autor, vive frente la Carcel de Corte encima la Botica. 630 x 210 mm. Excellent condition, strong impression, folded.- Attractive and scarce Spanish broadside explanatory map of the Holy Land and the city of Jerusalem by Minguet; the map is surrounded by descriptive text of the region and inset engravings of important buildings. The map seems to be rare; we can’t trace any institutional holdings according to OCLC, though it is hard to search given the absence of a uniform title. Pablo Minguet (1700–1775) was a Spanish writer, engraver, composerand publisher of popular tracts, which ultimately urged anappreciation of the fine arts by the broader public (his publishedworks include books on dancing, magic tricks, and music). We can find a reference of this publication at the Gazeta de Madrid on 12 February 1771 “Estampa nueva que demuestra la Tierra Santa, la ciudad de Jerusalén, antigua y moderna, con sus santuarios ysu historia, su autor Pablo Minguet, sehallara en su casa, frente a la cárcel de la Corte”.Gaceta de Madrid, núm 7, 12/02/1771, p. 60.
