Leonora Carrington: "Oval Lady" 1st.Ed.HC Book Capra Press 1975 Autograph signed
1917. Please see description below for additional condition details. Near fine. Limited Edition of 150 hardcover signed by the Leonora Carrington. This is number 58. Fairly certain the signature was effected before the binding, hence the quality. This is also an association copy. On the flyleaf is the bookplate of John Francis Putnam, born in 1917, son of Robert Faulkner Putnam, the New York Publisher who died in the influenza pandemic in 1918, and Nina Wilcox Putnam. Although married four times Nina had only one child, John Francis. Nina Wilcox Putnam was a famous writer beginning in the 1920s until her death in 1962. John Francis worked for Mad Magazine from 1954 until his death on November 29, 1980 from pneumonia. He left behind his wife Jane and their three sons. At some point in December 1980 Jane Putnam, no doubt still grieving, met Leonora Carrington and she inscribed the book for her. "For Jane, Love from Leonora. December 1980" Book has illustrations by Leonora's son, Pablo Weisz-Carrington. Capra Press, Santa Barbara, 1975. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine.
