1771 Original Robert Sayer 244 Prints & Plates
1771. This is a nice, original set of 244 prints by Robert Sayer. Publishing dates under prints range from 1771-1777. Prints arranged in bound volume measuring 19.25" x 11" and containing 74 pages. These prints appear to be design templates for home decor, festoons, trophies, urns, vases, pedestals, heads or landskips, and brackets. Robert Sayer first advertised prints for sale from the Golden Buck, Fleet Street, in December 1748, having become free of the Stationers' Company by redemption on 6 September of that year. In 1753 Robert Sayer became a liveryman of the Stationers' Company. At various times he took over the stock of Herman Moll, John Senex, John Rocque , and Thomas Jefferys; he probably also took over the stock of Henry Overton II in the 1760s. By the mid-1760s he was "in a very considerable trade as a print and map seller and employing a great number of workmen to engrave under his directions." He set up a manufactory for prints, maps and charts in Bolt Court off north side of Fleet Street. In 1768 in Paris with Thomas Jefferys. Pages have surface discoloration and some wear at edges, pencil/pen marks throughout, some pages ripped at edges. Cover page ripped and barely present. Text and illustrations sharp and legible. Bound volume cracked into two pieces, with last page being loose. Please review photos and Email me with any question. A great addition to any collection! Sold as is.
