MILLER, Henry and SCHATZ, Bezalel.
Into the Night Life.
[Berkeley, California]: Miller and Schatz, 1947. First edition, first issue, limited to 800 copies, of which only about 200 were bound; some 400 of the remaining 600 original sets apparently suffered worm damage; this is copy n° 71, signed by Miller and Schatz, folio; 80 pages, of which the text covers some 51 pages, 7 double-page colour compositions, and colour illustrations on almost every page. Hand bound by Eda Karin in blue cloth with silkscreen decorations and the original sienna felt patch glued to the upper board, black title on spine, in the solid blue cardboard slipcase. Book in excellent condition, slipcase a little stained. The text, reproduced in Miller's handwriting, is from "Black Spring", first published in Paris in 1936. Bezalel Schatz is often described as Israeli, but is called "a Palestinian artist" in the introduction. The book was produced entirely by serigraphy and took almost two years to produce. "Two hundred and forty stencils were made in order to reproduce the contents. [and] for some of the double pages. as many as twenty colours were used". The artist had only five screens, which were erased each time a page was deemed satisfactory. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
