Paris Benoît Prévost Avec privilege du Roy pour Gilles Gilles 1558 1560 leather binding with 5 raised bands, all edges gold gilt,in-4 [4]-212 [i. e. 210]-[2] leaves, skip in leaves numbering 193-194 typesetting error, copy seems to have been newly bound in the 17th or early 18th century, The first edition was published in 1558 under the title Histoires des amans fortunez edited by Pierre Boaistuau, who, however, had changed the work considerably. He recorded only 67 short stories, shortened many of them and left out essential passages in the connecting parts of the framework story. Finally, he regrouped narratives so that the context intended by the author was destroyed. In 1559 Claude Gruget published the 2nd edition. Here all stories were recorded and the frame story was left. This edition is considered the 1st edition in terms of the originality and intention of the work. The edition fom 1560 is a version Reprint of the first regular edition one year later see Brunet III 1416 Another rare edition which, although apparently made on the one dated 1559, has a privilege granted to Gilles Gilles, is dated 27 December 1558 // Adams M 564; Brunet III 1416 / Graesse IV 392 Versand D: 9,00 EUR Les nouvelles de la reine de Navarre
