Lipsæ. In Latin. 8vo (8"x12") bound in paneled calf. 981 pp. plus index, first edition. Four raised bands on spine with red edges. Front cover rubbed with some chips to edges. Slight separation between spine and cover. Binding tight. Pages single column with some inset text. Features beautiful engraving of the Ark of the Covenant on the title page and woodcut initial in preface. Pages mostly clean but water stain at front. Wormhole from front cover through first pages of text, rather unobtrusive. Slight foxing throughout along with some early repairs to pages and text at the back. Features the name of a library and several previous owners in ink on the title. A fine copy of a fine antiquarian text. Historical Provenance: Niels Hemmingsen (Nicolaus Hemmingius) (1513 - 1600) was a Danish Lutheran theologian. He studied at the University of Wittenberg 1537 to 1542 under Melanchthon.
