An extremely good example of the author's first adult book; considered one of the first books to demonstrate the influence of Kafka on the English novel; a radical dystopian fantasy in which a tyrannical government is overthrown in a heroic revolution. Three brothers set off to find freedom & discover a strange country "where space and time follow a mad logic of their own". Rex Warner (1905 - 1986) was an English classicist, writer and translator. He is now probably best remembered for The Aerodrome (1941). Warner was described by V. S. Pritchett as "the only outstanding novelist of ideas whom the decade of ideas produced".
