Twentieth Century-Fox, Los Angeles. Final draft script for the 1945 film noir. With mathematical annotations in holograph pencil on two pages. Based on the 1928 play by Lowell Brentano and Fulton Oursler, about a gumshoe hired by a carnival psychic to find a long-lost sister. Perviously filmed in 1931, directed by William C. Menzies, and starring Edmund Love and Lois Moran. Perhaps the only crime film of the 1940s to be shot on location in New Orleans. Blue titled wrappers, noted as FINAL on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 39 and production No. 165, dated APR. 7, 1945. Distribution page present, with receipt removed. Title page present, dated April 7, 1945, noted as Final Sccript, with credits for screenwriter Scott Darling. 115 leaves, with last page of text numbered 113. Mimeographed, rectos only, with blue revision pages throughout, dated variously between 4/11/45 and 4/17/45. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Near Fine, bound internally with two gold brads. Lyons US.
