The Boys' Friend Library, Champion Library Chapbooks Hardcover Bound 36 Issues
London: Amalgamated Press, 1928. Condition: Hardcover bindings in Near Fine to Fine condition. The covers were slightly trimmed when they were bound. The covers of The Sea Spider, The Lost Squadron, Lord of the Incas, The Buried World, The Master of Dwarf Island, The Island of the Dead, Queen of the Skies, Terror From the Stratosphere, The Earthquake-Maker, The Rocketeers, The Secret Kingdom, The World in Darkness and The Hidden Land, all have "75" written on them. The Rival Robots has an orange line across the cover and a small chip to the top outside corner. The last page of the Invisible Avenger has a chip to the top corner, 2 inches by 1 inch with some loss of text. (See photo). All have age-toning to the pages and some have rusted staples. See photos. The Boys' Friend Library, and Champion Library Chapbooks London: Amalgamated Press 1928-1939 British Science Fiction Novels Vol. I-IX Juvenile British science fiction/fantasy "novels", complete with their original paper pictorial covers, privately bound into nine matching sturdy hardcover volumes, about 5.5" x 7", with gold gilt spine lettering, save for what would be the seventh volume which unaccountably has no spine lettering. The 9 volumes contain 30 Boys' Friend Library Chapbooks and 6 Champion Library Chapbooks. Boys' Friend Library series began in 1906, the second series, running from 1925 to 1940, seems to consist wholly of Chapbooks (less than 100pp) using very small print so that a 96-page example might contain some 60,000 words of text.
