The boards remain straight, the binding is square and firm, and internally this copy is rather clean. The dust jacket is tanned, soiled, shelf worn, has closed tears and areas of large chipping and loss. That being said, this dust jacket is nearly unobtainable and is a true rarity in any condition. This title was the author's second book and is was is breakout success. In 1929 The Ascent of Humanity, an essay on the philosophy of history, won the British Academy's prestigious Hertz Prize.
