Original publisher s half cloth covered boards with title label at head of spine. Comes complete with the original fold-out Basic English word list, affixed facing the title page. Boards and title label a little sunned and foxed in places, with some light rubbing to front spine hinge. Now in a protective acetate sleeve (removable). Previous owner s inscription to front free-endpaper, endpapers also show a light scattering of foxing. Isotype images in superb condition throughout. A very good copy of this incredibly scarce volume. Austrian sociologist, Otto Neurath, was the lead theorist of the Vienna Method of Pictorial Statistics , which later became known by the acronym Isotype (International System of Typographic Picture Education). The Isotype picture language was originally conceived as a means of helping the public to understand complex statistical information through a more accessible visual format. After early applications in Vienna, Isotypes were utilised in pamphlets, posters and national campaigns in the Netherlands, the USA, the Soviet Union and in the UK, with subjects ranging from construction to public health. Neurath worked on the transformation of statistics into Isotype visualisations in close collaboration with Marie Reidemeister, who later became his wife.
