Extremely RARE, One-Of-A-Kind 33rd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry 1863 Civil War Diary - Andrew J. Boies Sept 11th - Dec 31st 1863 Battles of Wauhatchie & Lookout Mountain & much more! Extremely Detailed Accounts! 15.5 Full Diary Pages (31 sides of pages) Approximately 4,500+ Words!! True One-Of-A-Kind Civil War Diary/Journal. Battle of Wauhatchie was one of the only Civil War Battles fought exclusively at night! Condition (scale 1-10) - Overall - 7.0 - 2.5" x 3.875" diary; Very Good, Used Condition for a diary carried by a soldier during the Civil War. Cover - 4.0 - Fair - appears to be a carved bone cover; cracked & pieces missing in some spots; wear & staining of green material inside; cover detached from diary pages (please see photos). Interior/Diary Pages - 8.0 - Very Good; pages written in PENCIL; overall clean & crisp with some smudges, dirt, tears, bends, or marks on some pages • Diary of Andrew J. Boies; was in the Battle at Gettysburg. (He wrote a pretty famous book, Record of the Thirty-Third Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry from Aug. 1862 to Aug. 1865, from his diaries; this is only from a short period, but what is interesting is where the original diary differs slightly from his book. For instance, the diary starts Sept. 11th after a furlough. In his book, he does NOT mention that he went home!) • His handwriting is fairly easy to read except where occasionally smudged. • Pages overall clean & crisp with some smudges, dirt, or marks on some pages.
