MARY ANNE WORDSWORTH MANUSCRIPT WATERCOLOUR DRAWING ALBUM LAKE DISTRICT 1840
1840. This is a used book : further details are supplied in the item description. THIS IS THE WATERCOLOUR AND DRAWING BOOK OF ONE MARY ANN WORDSWORTH, WHO BEGAN THIS IN 1840. THE SPINE IS GONE AND THE UPPER BOARD IS LOOSE AND IT IS FULL OF DRAWING, WATERCOLOURS, AND PRINTS. THERE ARE NO EMPTY LEAVES. IN TOTAL THERE ARE 21 DRAWINGS, 13 WATERCOLOURS, 15 AQUATINTS OF LAKE DISTRICT SCENCES, 21 ILLUSTRATIONS OF A HAND COLOURED NATURE (SOME ARE SMALL BIRDS CUT OUT AROUND THE IMAGE), AND THERE ARE 11 STEEL ENGRAVINGS. THERE IS ALSO SOME VERSE. SOME OF THE DRAWNGS AND WATERCOLOURS ARE VERY ATTRACTIVE INDEED. THERE IS A VERY FINELY DETAILED PENCIL DRAWING OF AMBLESIDE, AND SOME OF THE WATERCOLOURS ARE BEAUTIFUL. SOME ARE BY DIFFERENT HANDS, SOME ARE SIGNED. I CANNOT TRACE MARY ANN WORDSWORTH - PRESUMABLY HER MARRIED NAME? - TO THE IMMEDIATE FAMILY OF WILLIAM WORDSWORTH THE POET, BUT SHE MUST SURELY BE PART OF HIS EXTENDED FAMILY. SHE IS COLLECTING LAKE DISTRICT VIEWS, AND PRESUMABLY VISITING THERE, AT THE SAME TIME AS HER NAMESAKE IS LIVING IN AMBLESIDE IN HIS LATER YEARS AND SHE MAY HAVE VISITED OR EVEN KNOWN HIM. ALL IDLE SPECULATION THOUGH. THIS IS BEING SOLD FOR THE CONTENTS AND IF YOU REQUIRE FURTHER IMAGES PLEASE ASK.
