First Edition, Second Printing of this Pulitzer Prize winning novel; a nice copy, tight and square with minimal shelfwear: exhibiting slight edgewear, foot of spine tender; spotting to head block-edges; textblock clean and clear; in its original first-issue DJ, as issued: with light edgewear, creasing, slight loss to cover-flap at head; light foxing to verso. Upper free endpaper bearing inscription: "December 12, 1981/ Appreciation and Regards from John Kennedy Toole's Mother, Thelma Ducoing Toole, to Dear Barbara Miller." Additionally, laid-in are two related items, as found: (1) White envelope marked "Introduction", with two pages written by Thelma Toole, penned in blue ink, stipulating introductory remarks about herself: "February 8, 1982/ Introduction: Our speaker of this afternoon, the mother of the brilliant author of "Confederacy of Dunces", was introduced to the substance and beauty of the world of culture, when her mother enrolled her in a branch of the New Orleans College of Oratory and Dramatic Art, at the tender age of three. This was supplemented by ten years of classical instruction in piano and five years of violin instruction. As a graduate of the New Orleans Normal School for Teachers, she taught for six years in the Lakeview Elementary School. After marriage, she taught Speech and Dramatic Art, which spanned forty-five years.
