Mark Twain
The Prince and the Pauper MARK TWAIN First Edition 1881
Boston, MA: James E. Osgood, 1882. Beautifully bound and preserved in half leather over marbled boards with raised bands, this first edition is in excellent condition all around. This was actually published in December 1881, just after the London edition and the Montreal copyright edition. This copy is in the publisher's original half morocco, one of several bindings available to the purchaser at varying costs. According to a contemporary prospectus, THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER was available in the usual green cloth (with or without gilt edges), "library" binding (full sheep), half calf, or -- as here -- half morocco. This copy is in very good++ condition. All of these leather bindings are considerably scarcer than the green cloth one, and are rather scarce in this condition. [Attributes: First Edition]
