Maxwell Anderson-KEY LARGO (1939)-1ST ED-VG+/VG DJ-INSCRIBED TO BELLA MUNI-RARE
1939. Anderson, Maxwell KEY LARGO: A PLAY IN A PROLOGUE AND TWO ACTS - INSCRIBED TO BELLA MUNI. New York: Random House, 1939. First Edition. First Printing. Octavo; dark gray cloth, with titles stamped in maroon on spine and front cover; dark gray topstain; dustjacket; [vi],125,[1]pp. Signed by Anderson on the title page, and inscribed by him to Bella Muni (actor Paul Muni's wife) on the half-title page: "For Bella Muni / Dear Bella / Early in our acquaintance, I reckoned my obligation to you in the terms of light-years / But lately I've lost count and given up / Sincerely / Max." Hint of sunning to spine, a few faint scuffs to rear cover, with a shallow dent to lower front board; contents fresh; Very Good+. Dustjacket (priced $2.50) measures a half-centimeter taller than the book, consistent with every first printing we've handled; sunning to spine, shallow loss to crown, with some mild dustiness, a few short tears, and shallow loss to corner-tips; Very Good. Superb association copy of Anderson's hard-hitting play, inscribed to Bella Muni, whose husband Paul Muni starred in the Broadway play version of Key Largo, which ran for 105 performances at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre between November 27, 1939 and February 24, 1940. Basis for John Huston's Oscar-winning film noir (1948), starring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Edward G. Robinson, and Lionel Barrymore. The Dark Page, Vol.1, pp.8-9. [Attributes: First Edition; In Dust Jacket]
