Unpublished Autobiography/Memoirs of Civil Rights pioneer, attorney, college administrator, legal scholar author, and teacher, George Marion Johnson. Born May 22, 1987. Died August 11, 1997. Signed by George M Johnson, January 1985. He was an attorney in the cases that culminated in the historic 1954 decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, Brown vs Board of Education. Book is 121 pages and in excellent condition. This was an incredible estate sale find. Researching I could not find this Autobiography was ever published. The front cover is signed by George Marion Johnson dated January 1985, along with original photos of George and his wife Evelyn. Also included is a In Memoriam from his funeral service August 17, 1987, in Borthwick Chapel, Honolulu , Hawaii. Amazing autobiography tells the story of his lifes trials and tribulations. His history is as follows: Born in Albuquerque,New Mexicoto parents William and Ella Johnson, he grew up in San Bernardino,California. Johnson graduated from UC Berkeley with an A.B. in 1923 and obtained his law degree and LLD from UC Berkeley in 1929. After graduation, Johnson began his legal career in 1929 as a tax attorney and was the first African Americans hired as California State Assistant Tax Counsel. He returned to UC Berkeley in 1938 to obtain a J.S.D., a doctorate in law degree and became one of the first African Americans in the nation to hold this advanced degree.
