Edgar Lee Masters
RARE 1936 Poem SIGNED by EDGAR LEE MASTERS & lover ALICE DAVIS - Christmas card
New York: 1936. RARE CHRISTMAS CARD SIGNED BY EDGAR LEE MASTERS & HIS COMPANION ALICE DAVIS [Davis, Alice]. Masters, Edgar Lee. [PUREST LOVE!]. A CHRISTMAS GREETING incorporating a POEM by EDGAR LEE MASTERS, SIGNED by HIM & HIS LONG-TIME COMPANION ALICE DAVIS. Hotel Chelsea, New York City, December, 1936. Two handsomely printed sheets, with the text of Alice Davis' Christmas greeting printed below her attractive pictorial device on the first page and Edgar Lee Master's poem "Purest Love", the first lines of which read "Purest truth, purest hope, purest faith, / Purest flame, like invisible fire;..." printed on the second page. Silking was a preservation and restoration process popular in the late 19th and early 20th century and can be reversed. Near fine. Alice Davis' Christmas greeting, handsomely printed below her pictorial device, is as follows: "Dear Friends, For a greeting to you in this holiday season I offer "Purest Love" - a poem by Mr. Edgar Lee Masters - with the wish that you may know rich fulfillment in the coming year." Signed "Alice" with "Hotel Chelsea / New York City / December 1936" gracefully printed at bottom left. The poem itself is signed in full "Edgar Lee Masters". Interestingly, Alice Elizabeth … [Click Below for Full Description]
