London: 1880. Bound by Blackie and Son (binder's label to rear pastedowns). Illustrated with sixty-nine engraved plates. Including portraits of Thomas A Becket, Roger de Mortimer, the gunpowder plot, and more. Thomas Archer (1668-1743) was an English Baroque architect, whose work is somewhat overshadowed by that of his contemporaries Sir John Vanbrugh and Nicholas Hawksmoor. Bookplate of John Henry Chalmers Armiger to front pastedowns. Complete in two volumes. CONDITION In decorative red morocco bindings with gilt detailing. Externally, very smart, with just a few marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages have some instances of foxing, but are otherwise bright and clean. Hinges have been reinforced with cloth tape. Overall Condition: Very Good Indeed.
