Folio Society Japan described and illustrated by the Japanese 2 book set 2012
Great Britain: Folio Society, 2012. These two books are like new and are in excellent condition and do not appear to have been read. The slipcase covers are also in excellent condition. This is copy number 219 of a limited edition of 980 copies. "There are 2 vols, decorated cloth, hand-printed Chiyogami endpapers, all edges gilt, folio,44 cm, 304 + 312 pp, illustrated in colour. With Essays on Japanese Art by Kakuzo Okakura, Director of the Imperial School at Tokyo, Japan and a new Essay for the Folio Society edition by David Perkins. This Folio Society limited edition is the first complete reproduction, showing all 259 original photographs, together with the text, 10 flower collotypes and 10 art prints, at their actual size. A very attractively produced set with the cloth covers blocked with a design by Neil Gower based on the original 1897 "Emperor" edition of the book. Japan and the two volumes presented in contrasting slipcases. Described and Illustrated by the Japanese was first published by J. B. Millet Company, Boston, in 1897-8, in a range of editions. This Folio edition follows the text of the ten-volume 'de luxe' edition.
