Smith 7; Charlotte Brontë's first novel, initially rejected by many publishing houses and not published until after her passing in 1855. It is her account of a young orphan, William Crimsworth and follows his upbringing, his loves and his eventual career as a professor at an all-girls school. Brontë draws on her experiences in Brussels, where she studied as a language student and was a teacher in 1842; Vol.I, viii+294; Vol. II, iv+258 pages
