A few copies were circulated to a tiny circle of Lovecraft friends prior to August Derleth's acquisition of about 150 useable sets of sheets from Robert Barlow, Lovecraft's literary executor. Copyright cancel label listing titles of magazines and books in italics and reading ''Though the sheets of this story were printed and marked for copyright in 1928, the story was neither bound nor circulated at that time...'' is separate, was once pasted over the copyright - the slightest evidence of this. This is one of about fifty sets of unbound sheets Derleth distributed prior to 1961 before binding 100 copies in the black cloth usual of Arkham House bindings.
