Folio Society. fine book, near fine slipcase, very good letter. William Wordsworth (2002) 'Selected Poems', Folio Society fine illustrated edition. Together with a signature and closing words of a letter addressed to Christopher Wordsworth handwritten and signed by William Wordsworth. The book: fine condition in near fine slipcase with just a little shelf wear. Beautifully illustrated with engravings by Peter Reddick. Introduction by Nicholas Roe. Usual high production standard by The Folio Society: quarter-bound leather with cloth sides, and printed on acid-free paper. The letter: Cut autograph signature ("Wm Wordsworth") with closing sentiment, from a letter to his nephew Christopher Wordsworth (1807-1885). Rydal Mount, dated 6 May 1849. 1 page, 12mo (90 x 103 mm), a few pale stains, short marginal tear. Comprises closing statement & signature cut from a larger sheet: "I remain, my dear Christopher, faithfully your affectionate Uncle". The reverse side is also written by Wordsworth "will for [illegible] to return with us to [illegible] for the remainder of the season. Love to Susan and to the children [illegible] remembrance..." Provenance: Obtained by us from the Robert L. McKay Collection, North Tustin, California. The handwriting, ink and paper correspond with other examples which we have examined. On the pricing: William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850) signatures are highly coveted reflecting the legendary status of the romantic poet who was Britain's poet laureate 1843 - 1850.
