Charles Dickens
1848. For sale is a rare and EXCEPTIONALLY FINE first issue/first edition of the original parts of Dombey and Son, by Charles Dickens. Published by Bradbury and Evans, London, 1848. A complete suite of plates by Phiz. 624p.p. Bound by Rivieire in the most exquisite contemporary green morocco. Fine gilt tooling to the spine and raised bands. The title in gilt. Ornate gilt inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers and a superb armorial bookplate to the front pastedown. Externally the morocco is pristine. The hinges very nice and firm. Internally it is refreshingly clean to the text and THE cleanest example we have handled. Overall, to find such an example in the early state of this title is indeed rare. One of the best-loved works of the C19th, and bound by one of the finest binders, this terribly fine and scarce example would grace any collection, and it comes very highly recommended.
