This set was so popular that it sold out almost immediately. Jim Corbett was born in Nainital near the Kumaon foothills of the Himalayas. His childhood was largely spent in Nainital and Kaladhungi were he mixed freely with the Indian kids, picking up several of the local dialects, and became very fluent in them. He would often take strolls into the jungle as a youth and this is where he had his first tryst with wildlife. He also used to accompany a local poacher named Kunar Singh for adventure hunting in the jungle and soon learned how to identify many animals and birds only by hearing their calls. He also mastered the skill of copying the voice of many birds and animals and gradually developed an expert knowledge in tracking and hunting tactics. These experiences would prove very useful later when hunting man-eaters as it allowed him to commiserate with stricken villagers in a way that touched them deeply. His hunting successes earned him along-held respect and fame amongst the people residing in the villages of Kumaon, with some even claiming that he was a sadhu (saint.)
