John Packard
MANUAL OF MINOR SURGERY by PACKARD 1863 First Edition
USA: Lippincott, 1863. A very rare classic in medical history. A first edition marked on the spine "U.S.A. Hosp. Dept". 288 pages with a listing of other Lippincott medical books and military books printed on front and rear paste-downs and feps. Dark green cloth boards, gilt title to spine, stamped pattern to covers. Much soiling and wear to covers, there appears to be a water stain to top of each cover, corners are bumped and worn through, more severely on the bottom, bumping and wear to head and heel of spine, chipping at each and a small chip at lower front cover hinge. Pages are age tanned and unmarked, save for a signature on ffep, water stain to edge of first ten pages. The text block has separated from the spine but is being held in place by front paste-down attachment for the first 140 pages, and the rear paste-down attachment for the final pages; within that group, pages 143-150 are in place but unattached. A weakening of the sewn binding can be seen throughout. Overall, a great book to have. [Attributes: First Edition]
