Dahl, Roald
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar - SIGNED to Douglas Highton in the year of publication
London Cape 1977. A first edition, first printing published by Cape in 1977. A fine book INSCRIBED to Douglas (Highton) 'Love/Roald/ Oct 1977' on the front free endpaper. In a near fine unclipped wrapper. Comes with a handwritten postcard from Roald Dahl, stating; 'Dear Douglas - You'll find your name in 'The Swan', and a little reminiscence of St. Peters in 'Lucky Break'. Yours, Roald'. The postcard is on Dahl's 'Gipsy House headed postcard. A superb association. Douglas Highton attended St Peter's prep school in Weston-super-Mare with Roald Dahl. As a friend, Douglas supported Roald during an incident at school, which Roald would never forget and later recounted in his autobiographical book 'Boy'. Douglas also appears anecdotally in the short story 'Lucky Break', and as a character in the short story 'The Swan'. The two stayed in touch over the years and Douglas would visit Roald at home in Great Missenden where Roald kindly signed many books for Douglas' grandchildren, Andrew and Rebecca.
