Benjamin Colman The Parable of the Ten Virgins Printed Boston 1747 Rare
1747. You are bidding on The Life and Character of the Reverend Benjamin Colman, Late a Pastor of a Church in Boston, New England, Who Deceased August 29th, 1747, To Which Is Added The Doctor's Discourses on the Parable of the Ten Virgins, published 1749, by J Rogers and Fowle [bound with] Practical Discourses on the Parable of the Ten Virgins, published by Rogers and Fowle, Boston, 1747, The Second Edition. 8vo, 238 p., 343 p., bound in original calf. Scarce early American imprint, Evans 6434. Colman was pastor at the Brattle St Church and was active among the dissenters, and was active in Society for Propagating Christian Knowledge, the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in New England and Parts Adjacent, and the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts. The biography is penned by Colman's son in law, Rev Ebenezer Turrell. This is a G+ copy, and a candidate for a rebind. Small library stamp to top and bottom page ends, front board lacking. Library pocket to rear paste down. Semi circular chip to outer margin of p 121/2 in first title with loss of some text otherwise textually complete. Pagination in second title jumps from p 237 to 240 but all catch words are present and so appears to be an error in pagination only; page 241/2 torn across; small chips to final leaf affecting some text (see photo) but overall a textually complete copy in need of a rebind. Very scarce. The majority of all copies in OCLC appear to be microfiche. Please email any questions and thanks for looking!
