Very scarce first English language edition of the two volume set of "The South Pole" by the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen. The two volume set details the full record of Roald Amundsen's famous dash for the South Pole. CHATER WITH MAPS AND NUMEROUS ILLUSTRATIONS IN TWO VOLUMES LONDON JOHN MURRAY, ALBEMARLE STREET, W. 1912 The two volume rare set is complete with all the pages, plates, maps, and charts. Both volumes are bound with a maroon hardcover cloth with gold gilt titles and the Norwegian flag in color on the front cover and spine. The two volume set consists of: Volume 1: 392 pages, 2 maps with one folding, and 84 mostly photographic illustrations on 56 plates. Volume 2: 449 pages, 3 maps with one folding, 2 folding charts and plans, 53 mostly photographic illustrations on 43 plates, and 11 pages of index. The condition for the two volumes is listed below: Volume 1: Good condition. Maroon hardcover cloth has wear on the front and spine (See Photos 1 and 2). A little foxing on the inside of front cover and the blank page that is directly adjacent to the inside of the front cover. The rest of the pages in the book are very clean.
