Rare 1906 Russian Manuscript Chora mosq Byzantine Mosaics Constantinople Turkey
This Rare 1906 Manuscript was published by the Russian Archaeological Institute in Constantinople (Izvestia). This heavy manuscript consists of 300 loose plates depicting this Monestary known as the Chora church, it's Byzantine mosaics depicting the life of Christ. The building now known as the Kariye Camii in Istanbul--originally the Church of Christ in the Chora Monastery is among the most important and best preserved monuments of Byzantine Constantinople. It is one of the most impressive examples of Byzantine monuments and mosaics to survive in the modern city of Istanbul. The plates are housed in a tan and red cloth hard cover tied with fabric string. This 113 year old manuscript is a very good condition.
