Alexander Pushkin and Pietro Sessa
Pusc'kin. Poesie scelte tradotte in versi italiani. Pushkin. Izbrannyia stikhotvoreniia v ital'ianskom perevodie [Pushkin. Selected poems in Italian translation]
self-published, Moscow 1915 - Octavo (22.2 × 17 cm). Original printed wrappers; 83, [3] pp. Text in Russian and Italian on facing pages. Good; wrappers marked and lightly soiled; corners scuffed and front wrapper beginning to detach. Scarce, privately published bilingual volume of poems, which presents literal translations into Italian of poems by Alexander Pushkin. Among them are "Tatiana's Letter" ("Pis'mo Tat'iany"), "The poet" ("Poet"), "I loved you" ("Ia vas liubil"), and "To the Slanderers of Russia" ("Klevetnikam Rossii"), and nearly a dozen others. The translator's preface implies that these are the first translations into Italian based on the original Russian, rather than prior German, French, or English translations, and his book is intended as a "precious and pleasant" gift both to Russian readers and to his Italian compatriots. Little is known about Sessa; he was a Moscow correspondent for numerous Italian newspapers in the 1920-30s and later authored a work on Fascism and Bolshevism (1934). KVK and OCLC only show the copies at the University of Alberta and Yale. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
