Soft Cover. Condition: BOOK VERY GOOD. 1st Edition. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR ON THE TITLE PAGE. 164 pages. Rutledge's earliest book and perhaps the rarest. This seldom seen title is in very nice condition. Blue, suede like cover has some light wear but is in overall nice condition. Theres a previous owner markings. This exceedly rare Rutledge title is undated but stated as being published in 1904 in a book by Joseph Flora. This would make this Rutledge's true first book as Under the Pines was not published until 1906. Rutledge is author of dozens of books about hunting and is perhaps most well known as South Carolina's most beloved poet laureate. His former home, Hampton Plantation, is a state operated park and is open to the public. Rutledge's notable descendents to name only a couple include two former South Carolina governors (his grandfathers) and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. During his career he had conferred on him twenty honorary degrees and more than thirty medals for nature writing. His portrait hangs in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Dr. Rutledge continues to be one of the South's most beloved and respected authors. Extremely rare Archibald Rutledge was the author of more than 50 books with many of his poems describing hunting or other experiences growing up on a plantation and summer holidays in South Carolina.
