COLORLESS TSUKURU TAZAKI AND HIS YEARS OF PILGRIMAGE. ***UK SIGNED FIRST EDITION + PROVENANCE***

Harvill Secker 2014 - First edition, first printing. SIGNED & STAMPED by the author to title-page. This copy from the author's very first U.K. appearance in years - at the 2014 Edinburgh Festival, and complete with the related provenance to that event. The latest Murakami is likely to remain quite a scarce UK signed 1st since the author only did one other event in the UK (in London). The print-run would certainly have been smaller than the American Knopf trade edition so, once again, the clear advantage of these Harvill Murakami's is very much in evidence. The U.K. edition was issued with an original sheet of special stickers, designed by Japanese illustrators and loosely affixed to the front free end paper - all present and correct here. Indeed, all elements of this book have been checked & established for the true U.K. 1st and the copy remains As New throughout (in an As New and protected dust-wrapper). D. B. Waters Rare Books: we are established (1998) and professional booksellers of fine and select 1st editions only. All stock is fully guaranteed by us and limited to first editions / first printings.

Taschen Verlag in Köln : 2014.. Limitierte Ausgabe von weltweit 125.000 Exemplaren : 429 S. : überw. Illustriert : Gr.-8 Octav, Pp. in Schuber : NEUBUCH :. 9783836550345

Chapter Two. The Lakes. Summer on the Lakes, in 1843.

Sumnerville, MI 2014 - Artist's book, unique the first in a series of two containing the text of Chapter Two of Margaret Fuller's first book, an account of her journey from Boston through the Great Lakes, this on Epson Premium Presentation Matte paper, with artist's statement on first page of text, signed and dated by the artist in pencil on the back flyleaf. Page size: 5.75 x 6 x 4.5 inches; 290 leaves. Box size: 9.75 x 9 x 8.5 inches. Bound by the artist: sewn in gold cloth over boards, green brocade cloth over boards panels affixed to front and back, decorated with green and gold crystal beads on spine and brass nail heads in all-over studded pattern, large brass medallion below title on front panel, similar button and crystal ornament on spine, title and author printed in black on sepia photograph of water inset into middle of front cover, handmade red paper endpapers, gold and white headbands, wrapped in green and gold damask cloth, patterned with gold feathers, quilted, sling with gold beading and braid with fringe each 1/2 inch wide at either end with which to lift book from box, housed in custom-made silk cloth and paper over boards footed and lift-off lid box with TruVue non-reflective glass insert in lid, the sides of the box lined with gold cloth over which are affixed images of Chicago as it was in the first half of the 19th century, old map of the Great Lakes and image of Native Americans, images affixed with decorative brass tacks and mounted on Japanese black and gold hand-made paper, and the interior of the box with gold silk insert at bottom; sides and lid lined with a different black and gold hand-made paper. The box sits on base of gold fabric over boards which extends about an inch out to form a pedestal that sets on gold-gilt ball feet. Lid of same green brocade used to bind book with copper and rings and brown stone beads drilled with green ribbon tassels, green and gold crystals surround exterior of box.Eugenie Torgerson has used the text from Margaret Fuller's first book, SUMMER ON THE LAKES, IN 1843 for her inspired images of the western prairie that was Chicago in 1843. Ms. Torgerson created digital compositions from her own photographs, pastel drawings and contemporary materials which she printed with an Epson Stylus Photo R2400 with Epson UltraChrome K3 ink on Yupo, a 100% Polypropylene, neutral pH, acid-freed substrate which she then waxed. The text is also printed with Epson UltraChrome K3 ink in 10pt. Times New Roman with the titles in Goudy Old Style in 12, 14 and 18pt. The transcription pages are printed in Bickham Script Pro, based on the lettering of 18th century writing as rendered in the engravings of George Bickham's THE UNIVERSAL PENMAN. The book combines text broken up with images of the prairie and micro-shots of Lake Michigan. Ms. Torgerson has presented Fuller's text almost horizontally and broken up the black and white text with images of the prairie throughout the year. The text also appears, here and there, as transcriptions printed in script, viewed only as magnified phrases rather than a complete sentences or paragraphs. The pages of images, then transcribed text, printed in script and manipulated on various backgrounds, as well as the actual text, are interspersed with page cream, green or red hand-made papers. There are also varnished sheets of clear paper separating the images and text that also serve to obscure the view of the preceding and succeeding images - much as the spray of water would do. Fuller's brilliant book is much more than an account of her voyage with fellow Transcendentalists, Sarah Clarke and her brother James Freeman Clarke, from Boston to Niagara Falls, Mackinac Island, and Rock River, Illinois. It is as much a meditation on her own life as well as life in America. In this second chapter, Fuller travels from Niagara Falls to Chicago, with stops along the way. She notes, "At first, the prairie seemd to speak of the very desolation of dullness. But after I had rode out and seen the [Attributes: Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Zero: Cypher of Infinity. Texts by Emily Dickinson, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Rainer Maria Rilke, Wassily Kandinsky, Gregory Orr, Isaac Newton, Charles Seife, Victoria Finlay, and Lucretius.

Vashon Island, WA 2014 - Artist's book, one of a series of 50, the first 5 of which are deluxe with additional hand-lettered pages, each copy with variations, all on Arches Text Wove and BFK papers, with occasional Japanese paper interleaves, signed and dated by the artist, Suzanne Moore. Page size: 11-1/4 x 15-1/4 inches; 35pp. Bound by the artist: custom-dyed black Cave Paper, tooled in gold and silver gilt arabesques, almost forming circles with lines and circles radiating out from center, housed in custom-made black cloth over boards, felt-lined clamshell box with grey paper label printed in black with the title and artist's name, highlighted with red and gold gilt circles by the artist. __The book is accomplished is a variety of mediums: original painting and drawing as well as silkscreen prints, with texts in wood and metal types (from the types of the Springtide Press) and polymer plate letterpress printing, embossing, and gold foil and 23k gold leaf, all by noted artist and calligrapher, Suzanne Moore. Ms. Moore collaborated on the letterpress printing with Jessica Spring of Springtide Press. While the book is an edition, the amount of hand work makes each copy slightly different. The reader / viewer is taken on a heady ride of visual images and words that are in the traditional linear format of a book: turn the page and move forward. However, the repetition of circles on each page, either as "zero" in various shapes and sizes printed in black, or as they appear in the painted images as giant circular swirls in a myriad of colors, or multiple combinations of text and image forming intriguing and provocative images, leads the reader / viewer around to zero, subverting or enhancing or furthering the linear concept of the book (reader's choice!). As an example of the complexity of this intriguing book, the opening text page spread is a series of zeros and printed text (by Moore and Denis Guedj) on a white ground. Ten pages later, the same design of zeros and text blocks (text now by Gregory Orr and Moore) is on a black ground. Of course, it looks completely different than the same art and printed text on the white ground - or does it? Coming full circle indeed!Suzanne Moore started investigating the complex history of the simple digit, "0" in two earlier commissioned artist's books, ZERO, FACES OF THE VOID (2007), and ZERO: CYPHER OF INFINITY (2009). In this edition book, she investigates concepts and controversy around Zero. She has incorporated texts by Denis Guedj, Charles Seife, the A. E. Stallings translation of Lucretius, Sir Isaac Newton, Victoria Finlay, Gregory Orr, Wassily Kandinsky, Rainer Maria Rilke, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Emily Dickinson. She ties this seemingly disparate group of authors / scientists together with her own words, pointing out the alarmingly limitless possibilities of Zero. These texts present questions that explore the complex history and eternal mystery of the void taken from science, philosophy, calculation, and symbology all interpreted through art and text. A most beautiful book! See an Image. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

The power and the glory : Famed photographer Annie Leibovitz weighs in with her own SUMO : Annie Leibovitz, with dustjacket Keith Haring

Taschen Verlag : 2014.. erste Auflage : price including shipping : Limited Edition : 476 S. : zahlr. Illustationen : Kartonage : Hardcover with fold-outs, supplement book, and book stand, 50 x 69 cm, 476 pages :. A limited edition of 9,000 signed and numbered copies, the Annie Leibovitz SUMO presents some of the most famed actors, musicians, artists, writers, athletes, and businesspeople of our time. Available in four different cover photos, this at once intimate and iconic portrait collection is presented with a Marc Newson designed book stand and a supplementary essay compendium. The power and the glory Famed photographer Annie Leibovitz weighs in with her own SUMO When Benedikt Taschen asked the most important portrait photographer working today to collect her pictures in a SUMO-sized book, she was intrigued and challenged. The project took several years to develop and proved to be revelatory. Annie Leibovitz drew from over 40 years of work, starting with the viscerally intimate reportage she created for Rolling Stone magazine in the 1970s and extending through the more stylized portraiture of her work for Vanity Fair and Vogue. Celebrated images such as John Lennon and Yoko Ono entwined in a last embrace are printed alongside portraits that have rarely, and sometimes never before, been seen. Annie Leibovitz was able to present some of her famous group portraits in a format that proves that she is the master of the genre. Her pictures are at once intimate and iconic, wide-ranging stylistically and also uniquely hers. Annie Leibovitz is often imitated, particularly by younger photographers, but her work is somehow immediately recognizable. The bookends of the Leibovitz collection are the black-and-white photograph of Richard Nixon's helicopter lifting off from the White House lawn after he resigned as president in 1974 and the formal color portrait of Queen Elizabeth II taken in a drawing room of Buckingham Palace in 2007. In between are portraits that make up a family album of our time: actors, dancers, comedians, musicians, artists, writers, performance artists, journalists, athletes, businesspeople. Performance and power are recurring themes. A supplementary book contains essays by Annie Leibovitz, Graydon Carter, Hans Ulrich Obrist, and Paul Roth and short texts describing the subjects of each of the over 250 photographs. The Collector's Edition is available in four different dust jackets: °Whoopi Goldberg, Berkeley, California, 1984 °Keith Haring, New York City, 1986 °David Byrne, Los Angeles, 1986 °Patti Smith, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1978 Limited to a total of 10,000 signed and numbered copies, this book is available as Collector's Edition (No. 1,001-10,000) and also as Art Edition (No. 1-1,000) with a fine art print, signed by Annie Leibovitz, and the full set of all four dust jackets. Both editions come with a tripod book stand designed by Marc Newson. "Portraits of our Time" Click here to read the interview with Annie Leibovitz! The photographer: Annie Leibovitz has been a working photographer for 40 years. She was the chief photographer for Rolling Stone and then the first contributing photographer for the revived Vanity Fair. In addition to her editorial work at Vanity Fair, and later at Vogue, she has created several award-winning advertising campaigns. She has been designated a Living Legend by the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. The authors: Steve Martin is a celebrated comedian, actor, writer, and musician. In 2010, he published the novel An Object of Beauty. Graydon Carter has been the editor of Vanity Fair since 1992. Hans Ulrich Obrist is the co-director of exhibitions and programmes and director of international projects at the Serpentine Gallery in London.         Intersticies & intersections, or, an autodidact comprehends a cube

Russell Maret, New York 2014 - Maret, Russell. Interstices & intersections or, an autodidact comprehends a cube. Thirteen Euclidean propositions. Translated by Thomas Little Heath with commentary by Russell Maret. [pagination etc., accordion-folded.] New York: Russell Maret, 2014. [size; binding by Daniel Kelm] One of 71 numbered copies printed by Maret on a special making of Zerkall paper. Preserved in a clamshell box. Prospectus included. A Letterpress Color Printing Tour de Force based on Euclid’s Elements, designed by Russell Maret and set in type designed by him, and with X [need numbers] beautiful color illustrations by Maret derived from Euclidean diagrams, each one requiring from ten to fourteen or more impressions to produce. Maret’s book has been compared Oliver Byrne’s The First Six Books of the Elements of Euclid (1847), but it is vastly superior in its design and execution, and includes color images that it is unlikely that any other letterpress printer could achieve. Maret described his design process for this work as follows: "I am beginning the project by reading and drawing proofs for all the propositions in Euclid’s thirteen books [of the Elements]. In the process, certain propositions stand out as having a particular interest or relevance: they spark associations in literature, letter forms, or life experience (or all three). I then develop visual ideas, write sections of text, and read books that might inspire or relate to the proposition at hand. Eventually, I will choose one proposition from each of the thirteen books and pair them with accompanying textual and visual commentaries of my own. For the illustrations, I am first painting them in pencil, ink, watercolor, and/or acrylic. Once I am satisfied with an illustration, I redraw it in separations to prepare it for printing. For the translation from painting to print to work, most of the spreads I have designed so far involve between ten and fourteen press runs each. The text of the book will be set in my proprietary type family, Gremolata & Cancellaresca Milanese, and printed from photo-polymer plates. The binding will be executed by Daniel Kelm" (Prospectus). Russell Maret is a fine printer and type designer working in New York City. He began printing in San Francisco as a teenager before apprenticing with Peter Koch in Berkeley and Firefly Press in Somerville, Massachusetts. He set up his own press at the Center for Book Arts, New York in 1993 and has been printing and publishing ever since. In 1996 Russell began teaching himself how to design typefaces, which led to a twelve-year study of letter forms before he completed his first typeface in 2008. The next year Russell was awarded the Rome Prize in Design from the American Academy in Rome. In 2011, he began working with the Dale Guild Type Foundry to convert some of his designs into new metal typefaces.

Bauenhochzeit nach Sebald Beham. Als Totentanz neu inszeniert von Peter Beckmann. 35 grafiken.

Bochum, Selbstvlg., 2014 - Kart.-Schachtel (33 x 25 cm), 1 Titelblatt, 35 lose Blätter, Tadell VOM 19.2 - 15.3. WERDEN DIE GRAFIKEN IM ANTIQUARIAT AUSGESTELLT!Eins von 20 Exemplaren (Vom Künstler auf dem Titelblatt signiert und num.). - Peter Beckmann, (geb. 1200 gr. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
