Kurt Schwitters Catalogue raisonné Band 3 1937-1948 / Volume 3 1937-1948 (Gebundene Ausgabe) von Karin Orchard (Autor), Isabel Schulz (Autor)

Hatje Cantz Verlag Sprengel Museum Hannover Norddeutsche Landesbank Stadtsparkasse Hannover Hanover, 2006. Although Kurt Schwitters was one of the most influential artists of international modernism, only select portions of his immensely varied body of pictorial work have been investigated thoroughly. And what a body of work it is, unlike one ever seen before or after, combining bits of found detritus into compositions of tight, unexpected melodies and startling tunes. Schwitters was constantly sighting scraps of handbills, train tickets, newspapers, clothing, and more on the city streets, pocketing them for later use in one of his Merz collages. His intense body of found object constructions stands as one of the premier examples of the ultimtate modern form, assemblage, of which he has been called the "grandfather." After extensive research worldwide and a complete examination of his artistic estate, Schwitters's oeuvre has finally been properly acknowledged, documented, and prepared for public presentation. The comprehensive Kurt Schwitters Catalogue Raisonna, of which the present volume is the third installation, includes more than four thousand works from the period between 1905 and 1948, many of them published for the first time. Lost and destroyed works are documented whenever possible. For ease of reference, the survey is ordered chronologically; within each year, works are sub-divided according to genre. In this third volume are presented creations spanning Schwitters's years in exile, 1937 to 1948, when he escaped Nazi Germany to live first in Norway and then in England. Though artworks are primarily reproduced in black-and-white, each volume of the catalogue also presents color reproductions of representative works Zusatzinfo 1312 Abb., davon 119 farbig Sprache englisch; deutsch Maße 265 x 308 mm Gewicht 4830 g Einbandart Leinen Kunst Musik Theater Kunstgeschichte Kunststile catalogue raisonne catalogue raisonné classical modern art Dada Sachbücher Kunst Literatur Bildende Kunst Sachbücher Künstler Literatur Bildende Kunst Klassische Moderne Schwitters, Kurt Schwitters, Kurt Werkverzeichnis Werkverzeichnisse ISBN-10 3-7757-0989-4 / 3775709894 ISBN-13 978-3-7757-0989-7 / 9783775709897 Kurt Schwitters Catalogue raisonné Band 3 1937-1948/ Volume 3 1937-1948 (Gebundene Ausgabe) von Karin Orchard (Autor), Isabel Schulz (Autor)

Prelo. 63 issues including 2 double and 2 triple issues (see below), apparently a complete run.

Lisbon, Imprensa Nacional, 1972-2006. - 63 issues. Folio (30 x 21 cm.; first series) and 8° (second and third series), original illustrated wrappers (1st and 2nd series) and original printed wrappers (3rd series). Illustrated. Very fine condition. *** FIRST and ONLY EDITIONS, apparently A COMPLETE RUN. We say "apparently" because the bibliography of the first series of this review is rather confusing and sketchy. According to a knowledgeable employee of the Imprensa Nacional, we have all the issues ever published. We have never seen any other issues on the market or described in any reference work. The set is as follows: First series: [volume I] 1972: numbers 1-5; volume II, 1973: numbers 1-6; volume III, 1974: numbers 1-6; volume IV, 1975: number 1; volume V, 1976: numbers 1-6 [1-2 and 5-6 being double issues]; volume VI, 1977: numbers 1-6 [1-3 and 4-6 being triple issues]; volume VII, 1978, "número único". Total 31 issues, including 2 double and 3 triple.Second series: Number 1, Outubro / Dezembro 1983-number 20, 1992; also the three unnumbered special issues: 1984 Maio, Sobre Eduardo Lourenço; 1984 Dezembro, Jaime Cortesão; and 1986 Dezembro, Fernando Gil: Cruzamentos da enciclopédia. Total 4 issues.Third series: Numbers 1-9, Janeiro-Abril de 2006-Setembro-Dezembro 2008. Total 9 issues. The first series is subtitled Revista nacional de artes gráficas. As the title implies, it is devoted to the graphic arts, with emphasis on printing processes, machinery, ink, paper and types. There are also articles on printing history, such as that in the first number by Jorge Peixoto on "Custódio José de Oliveira e as artes gráficas em Portugal"; and José Pedro Machado "O impressor de Os Lvsiadas" in the second issue. The second series is subtitled Revista da Imprensa Nacional / Casa da Moeda. It contains some material on printing history, but is mainly concerned with literature, literary history and criticism, with some bibliography thrown in. Edited by Diogo Pires Aurélio, it includes contributions by Jorge Borges de Macedo, José-Augusto França, Eduardo Lourenço, Vasco Graça Moura, Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, Jorge Listopad, Hernâni Cidade, Clara Rocha, António Reis, Luís Filipe Barreto, Viale Moutinho, Eduardo Prado Coelho, José Mattoso, Diogo Pires Aurélio, Miguel Torga, Mário Cláudio, Luís de Albuquerque, Eugénio Lisboa, José Fernandes Fafe, Eugénio de Andrade, António Ramos Rosa, Maria Alzira Seixo, Joel Serrão, António Coimbra Martins, Urbano Tavares Rodrigues, and others. Some of the literary contributions are otherwise unpublished. The third series, of which nine numbers have appeared, includes three essays on Fernando Gil (1937-2006), by José Marinho, Miguel Real, and Manuel Ferreira Patrício. There are additional essays by A.M. Machado Pires on post-modernism, Ivo Castro on Pessoa, José Carlos Seabra Pereira on Vitorino Nemésio and Gomes Leal as art critics, and Rui de Figueiredo Marcos on the work of Paulo Merêa. A short story by José-Augusto França is followed by a brief theatrical piece by Luiz Francisco Rebello. The first number also contains an homage to Afonso Lopes Vieira, as well as critical articles by Luiz Francisco Rebello on the theater of José Régio, Duarte Ivo Cruz on the theater of Luiz Francisco Rebello, Duarte Ivo Cruz on the fourth volume of the Teatro completo of Jaime Salazar Sampaio, and more. Subsequent numbers contain additional material along these lines.*** For the first series, we were able to confirm that it began in 1972 and that the British Library holds volume VI, numbers 1-3 [a triple issue]. Porbase lists for the first series only the first volume, 1972, and for the second series only states that it began in 1983 and that its appearance was "irregular". The British Library Integrated Catalogue states that for the first series the BL has only volume VI, numbers 1-3; for the second series the BL holdings are less clear, the BLIC stating that it begins in 1983. Hollis does not list the first series at all, and states that Harvard has on [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

Ad 1: Berlin Kat. 3332 (part 1, bound with part 2 of a different work); Millard coll. A remarkable volume containing three rare print series on architecture, architectural ornament and garden ornament, all published by the important Augsburg engraver and print publisher Johann Andreas Pfeffel the elder (1674-1748).Ad 1: First and only edition of a very rare ornamental garden pattern book (part 2 is especially rare) by the recently appointed court gardener and inspector of the Salzburg gardens, Franz Anton Danreiter (1695-1760). In 1728 Danreiter was appointed court gardener and inspector to related buildings by the ducal bishop of Salzburg. He translated Dezallier's La theorie et la pratique du jardinage into German, helping introduce French garden design to German-speaking countries. His own designs in the present work show more than 100 ornamental and fanciful planting patterns on 42 plates, many including fountains. This was his first and rarest model book with garden plans for parterres. They show that far from endlessly repeating the strict symmetrical canon of French Baroque garden design, Danreiter developed a never-ending variety of ornamental designs which herald the German rococo.Ad 2: First edition of Johann David Steingruber's first published architectural book, showing working drawings with plans, elevations and sections of town houses and palaces, mostly with scales. It includes several designs for a garden pavilion in an aristocratic park, lavish town houses for the haute bourgeois, and finally a ducal residence. Each design is shown in as much detail as possible. The grander houses are shown including streets and gardens. The Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach appointed Steingruber (1702-1787) court architect in 1734. In the course of his near sixty-year tenure he transformed the townscape of Ansbach following his own designs. He is best remembered for his playful "Architektonisches Alphabet" (1773), a remarkable series of designs in which each building has a ground plan based on a different letter in the alphabet.Ad 3: Rare 18th century copy of selections from the equally rare Diverses corniches choisies sur l'anticque, originally issued in 30 plates ca. 1670 by the ornamentalist and painter George Charmeton (1623-1674). It shows ornamental designs from classical Roman entablatures (architraves, friezes and cornices). With an early owner's list of the content and a library stamp. In very good condition, with only a crease across the corner of a couple leaves and an occasional minor spot. The paper sides are foxed, with a small water stain and a few chips, but the binding is otherwise also very good. Three rare architectural and ornamental print series, especially valuable for the garden layouts.

Myko Libri, Die Bibliothek der Pilzbücher

Hamburg, Germany, 2006. Dies ist nicht eine zweisprachige Ausgabe. Text in Deutsch, nicht in Englisch. Erste Ausgabe. This is not a bilingual edition. Text in German only, not in English. First edition. A limited and signed edition of 750 copies, this is the rare leaf edition of 75 copies only. Designated no. 62 on the colophon page, in a brown ink hand, and apparently signed in the same ink hand by the author but genuineness not guaranteed. Printed and presumed bound in Germany. Brown cloth binding, with crisp gilt-stamped mushroom design to the front board and the same design to the spine along with crisp gilt-stamped lettering. Unbumped spine head, and with very sharp corners. Note that the spine tail has a pronouced bump but it is a minor cosmetic concern and in no way affects the integrity either of the binding or the text block. Indeed the entire binding, including the bumped portion, is impressively clean, and the text block is firmly bound in. The lower left corner of the first several pages compressed somewhat from the bump. 11.75 x 8.5 inches. With xii and 13 - 525 numbered pages, and with numerous plates, many full-page and all in color. 75 of the 750 copies were issued with an original leaf plate from either Buillard's Champignons de la France (1780-1809) or Schaeffer's Abbildungen der Schwamme. Placed in loose at the front is an original plate from Champignons de la France. Specifically it is Plate 226, Agaricus petalodes, from that edition. The plate is colored in shades of brown, deep eggplant, and light mustard yellow. Moderate foxing to the plate. The leaf plate is tipped in along the top of the front pastedown and is protected by a fold-over flap. Lovely silk-satin page marker ribbon. This book either unread or very gently read. No remainder marks. An immensely clean copy. Lovely pictorial DJ in charcoal and black lettering and with a depiction of a mushroom cluster in shades of brown to the front, all against an eggshell-colored ground. Consistent with the bump to the spine tail of the book there is a slight bump to the spine tail of the DJ, with slight rippling but no soiling. Indeed the entire DJ is impressively clean. DJ is unclipped. The DJ with a lovely, new, clear Mylar protector. On account of the tail bump issue, downgraded from Fine/Fine to a Near Fine copy in a Near Fine DJ. Slipped in is an 8-page publisher's prospectus in English with instructions to accessing the German bibliographic catalogue.. First Edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Near Fine. Illus. by Various. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Limited Edition.

75 of the 750 copies were issued with an original leaf plate from either Buillard’s Champignons de la France (1780-1809) or Schaeffer’s Abbildungen der Schwamme.

        Gioielli d'Arte. Medioevo.

Istituto dell'Enciclopedia Italiana 2006 - Roma, 2006; ril. in pelle in cofanetto, pp. 964, ill. col., tavv. col.

All but one volume, THE PENULTIMATE PERIL (12), bear the author's characteristic blindstamp, the first two additionally dated, but the remainder inscribed in various ways to, or embellished for, two close friends, one of whom supplies a name for a character in the final chapter of THE GRIM GROTTO (so referenced in Handler's inscription - "To Kit in Chapter 13 25.X.2004 and Joe, six books back"), and are collectively thanked in different ways in several volumes, such as "without whose help." THE SLIPPERY SLOPE has a post-it of conveyance from Handler, signed "D.," and the inscription includes "who ought to know better...." Also present, but not inscribed, is a copy of THE BLANK BOOK, the "Magnets for Misfortune" refrigerator magnet, and THE MISFORTUNE TELLING CARDS (envelope worn, with ink notes on one panel). Original printed and/or pictorial wrappers with numerous maps, panoramas, plates, etc., many folding, some in colour. Generally a very good set. A full run of the Himalayan Journal from its inception in 1929 through to the 2006 62nd issue. With an incomplete collection of 32 Index pamphlets. 'The Himalayan Journal continues to be the prime activity of HC. First published in 1928, HJ has achieved a world wide recognition as the most authoritative source of reference on the Himalaya, Karakoram and Hindu Kush. Except for the war years it was continually published covering all the major expeditions. Over the years many expeditions are forgotten except those recorded in the literature and journals. It had a string of great editors. Maj. Kenneth Mason of Survey of India was the first editor who produced HJ for 14 years. He set very high standards and when expeditions were few he gave a scholarly outlook to the publication. Mason set up a tradition that others continued. C.W.F. Noyce, H.W. Tobin, T.H. Braham and Dr. K. Biswas were some editors who followed. Soli S. Mehta who took over editorship in 1967 brought fresh ideas and energies. He gaveHJ a face lift and introduced many changes. Soli Mehta produced 11 issues before his untimely death in 1989. R. E. Hawkins was responsible for strengthening of HJ. As the Hon. Asst. Editor he set up editorial traditions and brought HJ in line with the other modern publications. Now a team of enthusiasts under editors Harish Kapadia and Monesh Devjani continue the HJ tradition' (Himalaya Club official website).

For eight weeks, they disappeared into an ashram to study meditation. No press or visitors were allowed. A young Canadian filmmaker, Paul Saltzman, had also travelled to India the year before. He and the Beatles met by chance at Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram, striking up an immediate friendship. The Beatles allowed Saltzman to photograph them while they meditated and wrote music. 30 years later, Saltzman looked at his rolls of film and discovered a unique record of rock's favoured sons. The Super Deluxe and Special Limited Edition collector's box sets celebrate the unparalleled majesty of the Beatles' music and creativity, as well as the intimacy of Paul Saltzman's unique photographs and candid text.Special Limited EditionSigned and numbered Limited Edition, only 1968 copies105 pages, including 69 of colour photographs, 12 copper and 5 vellum pages, and 28 mehndi designsPadded hardcover Japanese Saifu hand-bound book 14.5" × 11″Encased in a 18.5" × 14″ clamshell box wrapped in Japanese SaifuDVD: Paul Saltzman interview, photo gallery, slideshow, extra footageCD: Craig Pruess' exquisite Beatles music on sitarSuper Deluxe Full leather, padded hardcover hand-bound book 14.5" × 11″
