Damien Hirst: I Want to Spend the Rest of My Life Everywhere, with Everyone, One to One, Always, Forever, Now

Booth-Clibborn Editions, London 1997 - First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Red laminated cloth-covered boards with title and graphics debossed on cover and stamped in black on spine; with photographically illustrated dust jacket. Mixed-media works and text by Damien Hirst. Essays by Gordon Burn and Stuart Morgan. Includes a biography, bibliography, list of illustrations and a poster. Designed by Jonathan Barnbrook. 334 pp., with numerous gatefolds, pop-ups and inserts, with over 700 illustrations. 13-3/4 x 11-5/8 inches. CONDITION: Near Fine (rear hinge starting, else Fine) in Fine dust jacket. From the publisher: "This publication -- Hirst's first -- is the artist's beguiling statement of his ideas and obsessions in life and art to date. Expressed in his own words, and illustrated by his own selection of over 700 images, pop-ups and special inserts, [it] encompasses the entire range of his work -- paintings, sculptures, installations and films. In this book, Hirst has created an iconoclastic work that challenges the boundaries of art, science, media and popular culture." [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

        The Subtle Knife

Scholastic Press, London 1997 - A very fine signed first edition, first impression, first printing of the second novel in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. The true first edition with a complete number line. This unread, sharp, bright 341 page book is bound in green cloth with a golden knife across the cover and golden titles on the spine. The book has no bumping, marking or writing apart from Philip Pullman's signature. The very fine dust jacket is not price clipped. The film of the Golden Compass, the American title for Northern Lights, the first volume in the trilogy was released at Christmas 2007 and the film production of The Subtle Knife is underway. The production company New Line Cinema scored a huge success with the Lord of the Rings film trilogy and His Dark Materials is expected to follow suit. The book is signed on the title page by Philip Pullman with his special dedication to the heroine "To Lyra" - to customise this copy of a very special book. The trilogy is expected to be an undoubted and enduring children's classic. Amanda Craig in The Times (14th July 2007) reckons His Dark Materials is one of the most likely contenders to emulate the success of J K Rowling's Harry Potter, but with "a towering imagination and a prose style that knocks spots off Rowling". Her bottom line is "sheer genius, it will be read in a 100 years time".Other signed copies of Philip Pullman's work are available from Burren Books, including Northern Lights and The Amber Spyglass, completing the Northern Lights trilogy. A photo of Philip Pullman at the book signing is also available. Clear removable film protects the dustwrapper.         Blind Man's Bluff.

Vincent FitzGerald & Co., New York 1997 - One of 50 copies, all on Fabriano Artistico paper, each signed by the artist on the colophon. Page size: 4-7/8 inches x 4-7/8 inches; 31 individual leaves (cards) including "Joker" and 2 "Wild Cards," titlepage, and colophon. Bound: housed in red cloth clamshell box by BookLab with title printed in silver gilt on front cover, new. The calligraphy is by Jerry Kelly who has printed it letterpress at Kelly / Winterton Press. There are 59 etchings of body parts - some hand watercolored - by Susan Weil from her drawings that were blind-drawn on copper, a technique that Weil has used for more than 50 years. The double-sided cards can be shuffled and dealt in any pattern, which contributes to the humorous possibilities in the title pun. Further, the cards can be re-arranged by simply turning them over, creating a new figure. The simple line etchings become incredibly complicated upon closer inspection. Playful and sly, touching and always imaginative, Ms. Weil gives us her unique view of the human condition, touching on varieties of emotions and stages of life, with an artist's eye. See an Image.         Bram Stoker's Dracula

Philadelphia: The Rosenbach Museum & Library, 1997 - Maurice Sendak illustrates DRACULA -- a rare broadside print limited only to 100 numbered copies, printed on fine textured drawing paper and signed in ink by the artist underneath his full-color design, especially prepared by Mr Sendak for a centenary exhibition of Bram Stoker's classic horror tale at the Rosenbach Museum & Library, 10 April to 2 November 1997. This design was also used for the show's poster and illustrated bookmark as well as the front panel dust-jacket design of the descriptive catalogue -- but only this print is reproduced in the exact size of the original artwork and no copies of the print were done unnumbered or unsigned (except as intermediate proof copies). ACCOMPANIED by the show's descriptive catalogue: Bram Stoker's DRACULA - a Centennial Exhibition at the Rosenbach Museum & Library (Philadelphia 1997), its text by curator Wendy Van Wyck Good and Michael J Barsanti with an introduction by Nina Auerbach. Large format 4to, 36pp illustrated throughout; red paper covers, with full-color pictorial dust-jacket picturing Mr Sendak's unique design. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Soft Cover]

        La Maison Martin Margiela (9/4/1615)

Rotterdam: Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, 1997. First Edition. Hardcover.. VG+. 8vo. 154pp. White raw edged cloth as issued. Numerous Colour and Black & White images. Text in English. With exhibition poster and booklet laid in. More images available on request. A real treat here! The impossible to find first book by Margiela, which accompanied the MMM show at Boijmans. Very much a conceptual project, with the team taking one piece from every collection since the beginning, reproducing it in white, cream and grey, and covering it with bacteria specially created for the show, which then grew, ate and changed the colours of the clothes during the duration of the exhibition. The book itself comprises 3 parts, firstly- archive photographs of the garments chosen, second- garment descriptions, diagrams, and the original press releases with space for notes, and the third part comprises the research into bacterias and micro organisms by collaborator Dr. van Egeraat, with numerous photographs and diagrams. Really brilliant, and extremely scarce.
