Turner Publishing, Inc., Atlanta, GA 1994 - Inscribed "To Judy L. Roth / Alan Shepard / 10-12-95" on title page in black ink. Shepard, Alan B., Jr. Born November 18, 1923, East Derry, NH, USA. Died July 21, 1998, Monterey, CA, USA. First U.S. astronaut to travel in space. Shepard graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md, in 1944 and served in the Pacific during World War II. He became a naval test pilot, and in 1958 he graduated from the Naval War College, Newport, R.I. In 1959 he became one of the original seven astronauts chosen for the U.S. Mercury program by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). On May 5, 1961, Shepard made a 15-minute suborbital flight in the Freedom 7 spacecraft, which reached an altitude of 115 miles (185 km). The flight came 23 days after Major Yury Gagarin of the Soviet Union became the first man to orbit the Earth. Shepard commanded the Apollo 14 flight (Jan. 31-Feb. 9, 1971; with Stuart A. Roosa and Edgar D. Mitchell), which involved the first landing in the lunar highlands. Shepard headed NASA's astronaut office from 1963 to 1969 and then from 1971 to 1974, when he retired from the Navy and the space program to undertake a career in private business in Texas. Hill House. New;. 1994. Hardcover. 0947352244 . 85 Plates. BRAND NEW! This is not a mere reproduction. This is an exact facsimile of an original held in the Libraries of the British Museum (Natural History) in London and Tring. It is not a reproduction, because no camera was used in transferring the images from the originals. The paper used is 130 gsm mat art paper. This facsimile carries faithfully every spot, mark or stain as the original. It also carries the original Museum Department of Zoology stamps, and librarian's annotations. The color printing is so accurate that, from behind glass, the naked eye would be unable to distinguish the original from the facsimile. This facsimile is exactly the same size as the original (Imperial Folio: 22" x 15"). It is cased-in and bound between 4 mm. The boards are covered in special Japanese Saifu cloth, gold stamped on the spine, and with the gold Crown Cipher of the British Museum (Natural History) on the front, and blind embossed on the inner margin of the front boards. The end-papers are of special wood-free heavy grade paper, printed in a generated repetitive pattern of the Museum's Library stamps. The publisher has not intruded into the authenticity of the book, leaving the publication data printed only on the very last page at the end of the book block. This book is individually numbered on the inside front board, hand wrapped in protective brown paper, and placed in its own crush-proof outer carton. The carton is then sealed, numbered and signed on the outside by the printer's quality control officer. ; Vol. 7 .

        A Clear Conscience

London - Bantam Press, 1994 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First edition. A smart first edition of Frances Fyfield'sfifth crime novel in her Helen West series. Neatly signed by the author to the title page, dated 30th September 1995. Featuring the original illustrated dustwrapper, by Jonathan Ring. Gary J. McCallum noted in the Armchair Detective (1995, 3:28), The defining feature of Fyfield's novels is their astonishing generosity of spirit, which may seem somewhat incongruous given her subject matter: insanity, incest, violence (often murder), emptiness, suicide -- all at the darkest extreme of human experience. Yet each of her characters is accorded a distinctive voice, that humanizes even the most unregenerate of them. Condition: In original publishers' cloth binding with original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, cloth is smart. Dustwrapper is bright and sound, with only some light marks to the rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound, bright and clean throughout. Author's signature to the title page. Overall: FINE with a NEAR FINE dustwrapper..

        Other Men's Flowers

Paragon Press, London 1994 - Other Men's Flowers is a portfolio of text-based prints by fifteen London artists curated by Joshua Compston (1970-96). It was printed by Thomas Shaw and Simon Redington and published by Charles Booth-Clibborn under his imprint, The Paragon Press. The title is taken from an anthology of wartime poetry compiled by Field-Marshal Viscount Wavell (published 1944) who had himself taken the phrase from a well-known quotation attributed to Montaigne: 'I have gathered a posie of other men's flowers and nothing but the thread which binds them is my own.' Each print (47 x 61 cm) is text-based and produced using mostly letterpress, but also screenprint, lithography and monotype on a variety of papers. The portfolio was produced in two slightly different editions. This copy (no. 66/100) is from the 'book' edition, of one hundred copies plus twenty artist's proofs, consisting of fifteen prints, three title pages and a colophon page signed by all the artists, presented in the publisher¿s box. (The other 'portfolio' edition of fifty, plus twenty artist's proofs, differs only in that the prints are individually signed). The three preliminary title pages were designed by Compston. The participating artists were: Henry Bond ; Stuart Brisley ; Don Brown ; Helen Chadwick ; Mat Collishaw ; Itai Doron ; Tracey Emin ; Angus Fairhurst ; Liam Gillick ; Andrew Herman ; Gary Hume ; Sarah Staton ; Sam Taylor-Wood ; Gavin Turk ; and Max Wigram.
