HUMMINGBIRDS (VOL. 2) (AUTHENTIC FACSIMILE EDITION) Sabre-Wings, Hill Stars, Caziques & Caribs, Lance-Bills, Wood-Nymphs, Jacobins

Hill House. New;. 1994. Hardcover. 0947352252 . 75 Plates. BRAND NEW! This is not a mere reproduction. This is an exact facsimile of an original held in the Libraries of the British Museum (Natural History) in London and Tring. It is not a reproduction, because no camera was used in transferring the images from the originals. The paper used is 130 gsm mat art paper. This facsimile carries faithfully every spot, mark or stain as the original. It also carries the original Museum Department of Zoology stamps, and librarian's annotations. The color printing is so accurate that, from behind glass, the naked eye would be unable to distinguish the original from the facsimile. This facsimile is exactly the same size as the original (Imperial Folio: 22" x 15"). It is cased-in and bound between 4 mm. The boards are covered in special Japanese Saifu cloth, gold stamped on the spine, and with the gold Crown Cipher of the British Museum (Natural History) on the front, and blind embossed on the inner margin of the front boards. The end-papers are of special wood-free heavy grade paper, printed in a generated repetitive pattern of the Museum's Library stamps. The publisher has not intruded into the authenticity of the book, leaving the publication data printed only on the very last page at the end of the book block. This book is individually numbered on the inside front board, hand wrapped in protective brown paper, and placed in its own crush-proof outer carton. The carton is then sealed, numbered and signed on the outside by the printer's quality control officer. ; Vol. 2 .

Manuscript Review of Nicholson Baker's The Fermata

1994 - Crowley's handwritten review of Nicholson Baker's The Fermata, which was published with the title "Naughty, Naughty Boy" in the 2/20/94 Washington Post. A five-page, handwritten, much-corrected manuscript on yellow-lined paper. Folded once to fit into the uncorrected proof of Baker's novel, which is also included [NY: Random House (1994)]. Crowley's notes on two pages of the proof; near fine in wrappers. An interesting pairing: one of our greatest writers of fantasy (Aegypt; Little, Big) on one of our more popular literary sexual fantasists. Crowley's papers are housed at the University of Texas's Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, and manuscripts of his seldom appear on the market.

(VISIONAIRE). Gan, Stephen, James Kaliardos & Cecilia Dean, Editors. VISIONAIRE NO. 12: DESIRE (FALL 1994) - DISPLAY COPY. New York: Visionaire Publishing, 1994. First Edition 1/2000. 4to. Loose Plates in a Portfolio. Fashion Quarterly. Very Good/No Jacket - As Issued. Individual illustrated sheets laid into a debossed silk over boards portfolio, profusely illustrated. Designed by Gregory Foley. Published in an edition of two thousand copies, this is the twelfth installment of everyone's favorite long-running luxe fashion quarterly, Visionaire. "This was our collaboration with Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, and an opportunity to support a cause very close to Visionaire. Anneliese Estrada, DIFFA's creative director and our friend, came to us to raise awareness and money through art. The art dealer Paul Morris helped us gather all the original artwork printed in the issue, which was then exhibited at Charles Cowles Gallery and auctioned, with all of the proceeds benefiting DIFFA's charitable programs. The issue came in a red-satin case with bone latches, modeled after Chinese brocade jewelry boxes. These were made by hand in China, and the work took forever. The fabric refused to adhere to the boards due to, the factory wrote us, ''the humidity caused by the monsoon.'' Each edition opens with an actual print of a three-dimensional photograph of Shalom Harlow shot by Stephane Sednaoui. Sixty more artists contributed their own sexy and suggestive imagery". The stellar contributors to this issue include editor Stephen Gan, Bill Cunningham, Steven Meisel, Bruce Weber, Ruben Toledo, Francois Berthoud, Mats Gustafson, Mario Testino, Steven Klein, David Seidner, Todd Oldham, Enrique Badulescu, Ruven Afanador, Martin Margiela, Pamela Hanson, Peter Robotham, Barbara Kruger, Nobuyoshi Araki, Nan Goldin, Ross Bleckner, David Armstrong, Jack Pierson, Steven Klein, Karen Kilimnik, Jim Hodges, Zoe Leonard, Kay Rosen, Lisa Yuskavage, Bill Jacobson, Mark Morrisroe, Bjork, and many, many more. A most handsome unnumbered hors commerce example of this uncommon issue stamped "Display Copy" by the publisher on the inside front board. It has been priced accordingly.         HOLY SOUL JELLY ROLL POEMS AND SONGS 1949 - 1993.

[Los Angeles: Rhino Records / Word Beat, 1994]. - Four CDs, in cases, accompanied by 62pp. booklet, pictorial stiff wrappers, illustrated. The whole enclosed in publisher's pictorial board clamshell box. Box a bit shelfworn at corners, otherwise very good or better. Inscribed presentation copy from Ginsberg, inscribed inside the upper lid of the box: "For Lucien Carr 9/28/94 Allen Ginsberg Washington D.C.," accompanied by a large ink drawing covering the blank areas of the lid. Within the booklet of text, he has inscribed and signed it again to Carr ".hopefully the poem's last longer than the metallic C-D's ." A very good association copy: Ginsberg met Carr at Columbia University in 1943, and through Carr met Jack Kerouac, Neal Cassady and William Burroughs. In the NYT Obituary for Carr (30 January 2005), Ginsberg's earlier comment about Carr's role in the circle of friendships that gave birth to the literary arm of the Beat Generation was quoted: "Lou was the glue." Carr went to work for United Press International in 1946 and was promoted to night news editor in 1956, coincident with the preparations for press of the first public edition of HOWL. Carr was included, with Kerouac, Burroughs and Cassady, in the printed dedication, and when he received his copy, wrote Ginsberg expressing "one small gripe" about his inclusion there, and requesting, out of deference to his privacy, that Ginsberg avoid such mention in future books. At Ginsberg's expense, Carr's name was deleted from the dedication page of the second impression (then already printed), and from subsequent printings. Nonetheless, in 1982, Ginsberg dedicated PLUTONIAN ODE to Carr, ". for friendship all these years."

Prints and portfolio in flawless, pristine condition. From Mark Haworth-Booth: "The artists represented here work with the idea that manipulation -- technical, political, psychological and an endless menu of ramifications -- is the underlying reality of our time. The images here do not so much 'express' this; it's what they are." From the publisher: "'Metamorphoses' is among the first fine-art portfolios of digital photography ever produced. Featured are dynamic new works by some of the most significant established and emerging artists of our time. Marrying the revolutionary potentials of digital image-making with the Iris digital printing process, this portfolio represents the state of the art of a nascent form of photographic expression. At a pivotal moment in the history of photography, this work represents a metamorphosis: the transformation of the medium from its photochemical origins to a new, digital foundation. The artists included in the 'Metamorphoses' portfolio were chosen for the sophistication and eloquence of their visual statements. Working in collaboration with Nash Editions in the proofing and production of the edition, these artists have created digital prints of photographic images that were impossible or simply unimagined before the emergence of computer-imaging techniques. A new vision is emerging at the crossroads of art and technology, and now, along with it, we have a printing method compatible with that vision."         Die Blätter im Louvre und das verlorene Turiner Gebetbuch. RF 2022-2025 Département des Arts Graphiques Musée du Louvre, Paris und Handschrift K.IV.29 Bibloteca Nazionale Universitaria, Torino, Blatt 2023 fehlt!

Luzern: Faksimile-Verlag, 1994 - Ein sauberes Exemplar. Beitr. teilw. dt., teilw. franz., teilw. lat. ISBN 3856720502 Sprache: de Gewicht in Gramm: 550 3 Faksimile in Papphülle, XLV S. Wiedergabe des verbrannten Gebetbuch, broschiert. 206 Beibuch, Originalleinen in mit Leinen bezogener Kassette. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
