Each Volume with c. 90 pages (Total of c. 270 pages). Original Softcover. Excellent condition with only minor signs of external shelfwear to the Volumes (corners and lower edges very slightly frayed) . All Volumes appear to be nearly unread. Very rare Collection ! The Incal (French: L'Incal) is a French science fiction comic book series written by Alejandro Jodorowsky and illustrated by Moebius and others. The Incal, originally released as Une aventure de John Difool ("A John Difool Adventure"), introduced Jodorowsky's "Jodoverse", a fictional universe in which his science fiction comics take place. (Wikipedia) Alejandro Jodorowsky Prullansky (Spanish: [ale'xand?o xoðo'?ofski]; born 17 February 1929) is a Chilean film and theatre director, screenwriter, playwright, actor, author, poet, producer, composer, musician, comics writer and spiritual guru. Best known for his avant-garde films, he has been "venerated by cult cinema enthusiasts" for his work which "is filled with violently surreal images and a hybrid blend of mysticism and religious provocation". Born to Jewish-Ukrainian parents in Chile, Jodorowsky experienced an unhappy and alienated childhood, and so immersed himself in reading and writing poetry. Dropping out of college, he became involved in theater and in particular mime, working as a clown before founding his own theater troupe, the Teatro Mimico, in 1947. Moving to Paris in the early 1950s, Jodorowsky studied mime under Étienne Decroux before turning to cinema, directing the short film Les têtes interverties in 1957. From 1960 he divided his time between Paris and Mexico City, in the former becoming a founding member of the anarchistic avant-garde Panic Movement of performance artists. In 1966 he created his first comic strip, Anibal 5, while in 1967 he directed his first feature film, the surrealist Fando y Lis, which caused a huge scandal in Mexico, eventually being banned. His next film, the acid western El Topo (1970), became a hit on the midnight movie circuit in the United States, considered as the first-ever midnight cult film, garnering high praise from John Lennon, which led to Jodorowsky being provided with $1 million to finance his next film. The result was The Holy Mountain (1973), a surrealist exploration of western esotericism. Disagreements with the film's distributor Allen Klein, however, led to both The Holy Mountain and El Topo failing to gain widespread distribution, although both became classics on the underground film circuit. After an aborted attempt at filming Frank Herbert's 1965 science fiction novel Dune, Jodorowsky produced three more films, the family film Tusk (1980), the surrealist horror Santa Sangre (1989), and the failed blockbuster The Rainbow Thief (1990). Meanwhile, he has simultaneously written a series of science fiction comic books, most notably The Incal (1980–1989), which has been described as having a claim to be "the best comic book" ever written, and also The Technopriests and Metabarons. Accompanying this, he has also written books and regularly lectures on his own spiritual system, which he calls "psychomagic" and "psychoshamanism" and which borrows from his interests in alchemy, the tarot, Zen Buddhism and shamanism. His son Cristóbal has followed his teachings on psychoshamanism; this work is captured in the feature documentary Quantum Men, directed by Carlos Serrano Azcona. (Wikipedia) Jean Henri Gaston Giraud (8 May 1938 – 10 March 2012) was a French artist, cartoonist and writer who worked in the Franco-Belgian bandes dessinées tradition. Giraud garnered worldwide acclaim predominantly under the pseudonym Mœbius and to a lesser extent Gir, which he used for the Blueberry series and his paintings. Esteemed by Federico Fellini, Stan Lee and Hayao Miyazaki among others, he has been described as the most influential bandes dess [Attributes: Soft Cover]

        The Vampire Lestat Film Proposal

1988 - Rice's own "bible-script" for a film "based on material in the novels Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned," and is apparently named for the protagonist of all three novels rather than the title of the series' second book. This precedes the release of the film Interview with the Vampire (for which Rice wrote the screenplay) by six years. Development of a new version of The Vampire Lestat followed the success of that first film, but went nowhere and the film rights reverted to the author. A film of The Queen of the Damned followed in 2002, for which Rice did not write the screenplay and which contained many elements of The Vampire Lestat: neither Rice nor the critics approved of the sequel. This "bible-script" of Rice's seems destined to remain the series' missing link. Included here, in addition to Rice's 185 page script, are her list of "main characters, with notes on appearance" (2 pages); her 12-page treatment of a Queen of the Damned film; and one page on the "virtually endless" possibilities for more films (probably correct, as the 11th book in the series was published in 2014). Three hole-punched; mechanically reproduced sheets bound with two brads; title and date written on spine. Printed on rectos only with the header changing from "Rice/Vampires" to "Vampire/Rice" to "Vampire Chronicles." Small tears to the last page at the upper brad; near fine. A rare original work by Rice related to her most famous series of books, which rekindled the use of vampires in literature and the arts as stand-ins for human desire -- a trend that has persisted to the point that it is now a pervasive part of contemporary popular culture. We have been unable to find any record of another copy of this work appearing in the market, nor any evidence of it in institutional collections. [Attributes: First Edition]

THE LIFE AND OPINIONS OF TRISTRAM SHANDY, GENTLEMAN - DELUXE LIMITED ARION PRESS EDITION ILLUSTRATED AND SIGNED BY JOHN BALDESSARI

(BALDESSARI, JOHN). Sterne, Laurence, Melvyn New & John Baldessari. THE LIFE AND OPINIONS OF TRISTRAM SHANDY, GENTLEMAN - DELUXE LIMITED ARION PRESS EDITION ILLUSTRATED AND SIGNED BY JOHN BALDESSARI. Signed by the Artist. San Francisco: Arion Press, 1988. First Edition 1/400. Stout 8vo. Full Leather in Slipcase. Livre D'Artiste. Very Good/No Jackets - As Issued. 624 + 46 + np, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. This twenty-sixth publication of Andrew Hoyem's esteemed Arion Press is a beautifully constructed and executed hand-letterpress reprinting of Lawrence Sterne's classic of English literature, "The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman" that has been newly-illustrated by the noted Conceptual artist John Baldessari. Remaining faithful to the delightful typographic eccentricities and variant spellings of Sterne's own self-published editions from the 1760s, the main text of the novel has been set in Caslon Old Style - the typeface utilized by Sterne for the original printings - and bound in a single, substantial three-quarter green goatskin over lovely hand-marbled boards volume. This is accompanied by literary scholar Melvyn New's informative forty-six page essay "Lawrence Sterne and Tristram Shandy" separately bound in boards. The crowning achievement of this ambitious undertaking however is the third volume which contains John Baldessari's wry visual commentary of photo-collaged and altered found photographs and film stills in the form of a lengthy accordion-fold leporello that is anchored between green gilt-stamped boards. The three volumes are housed in a gilt-stamped green paper over board slipcase. A handsome example of the standard edition of this exquisite, uncommon item (entry number three in Elizabeth Phillips and Tony Zwicker's 1993 "The American Livre de Peintre" exhibition and catalogue from The Grolier Club) limited to four hundred unnumbered copies BOLDLY SIGNED "John Baldessari" in pencil on the colophon of illustrated volume, as issued, showing some typical mild age-toning of the spines along with mild surface abrasions as well as tiny dings to the upper foredge tips of the primary text volume. The slipcase is a bit worn and handled with some insect damage - primarily to the rear panel - that does not affect the gilt lettering. It has been priced accordingly. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its weight and value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.         The Vampire Lestat Film Proposal

1988. Rice's own "bible-script" for a film "based on material in the novels Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned," and is apparently named for the protagonist of all three novels rather than the title of the series' second book. First Edition.

        Bright Angel

(n.p.): (n.p.). 1988. A 120-page screenplay by Ford for a 1991 film adaptation he did from stories in his collection Rock Springs. The film was directed by Michael Fields and starred Dermot Mulroney, Lili Taylor, Sam Shepard and Valerie Perrine. Apparently a later generation photocopy, as the text is less sharp; also the rectos of the pages tend to stick to the versos of the pages preceding. This copy is signed by the author.         Ornamental Music folder from the Collection of King Farouk of Egypt

An ornamental music folder, boards covered in gold velvet, the front board decorated with four brass corner ornaments each inlaid with multi-color cloisonné, surrounding an elaborate and large central decoration in brass and detailed cloisonné with a raised image of a lyre at the center. 14.25 x 11.25x .5 inches. From the collection of King Farouk of Egypt, sold originally at the 1988 Oakland Galleries auction of the J.W. Menhall Estate, including items from the King Farouk Collection, and sold here with a copy of the sale catalogue in which the folder is illustrated. Farouk I of Egypt was the tenth ruler from the Muhammad Ali Dynasty and the penultimate King of Egypt and the Sudan, succeeding his father, Fuad I of Egypt, in 1936. He ruled during a turbulent time in Egyptian and Middle East history that was marked by the creation of the Arab League, the first Arab-Israeli conflict, and heated nationalist opposition to the British. Instead of being the shrewd political leader that Egypt needed, Farouk was a materialistic womanizer and corpulent spendthrift whose outrageous lifestyle eventually led to his downfall. Enamoured of the glamorous royal lifestyle, although he already had thousands of acres of land, dozens of palaces, and hundreds of cars, the youthful king often travelled to Europe for grand shopping sprees, earning the ire of many of his subjects. It is said that he ate 600 oysters a week and in 1951, he bought the pear-shaped 94-carat Star of the East Diamond and a fancy-coloured oval-cut diamond from jeweler Harry Winston. Overthrown in the Egyptian Revolution of 1952 , he was forced to abdicate in favor of his infant son Ahmed Fuad, who succeeded him as Fuad II of Egypt. He died in exile in Italy.
