Many of the shirts incorporate the iconography of the gay community, with four designed by artist Keith Haring, who would ultimately lose his life to AIDS-related complications on February 16, 1990. An inventory of the collection as follows:.

        High Bridge.

St. Paul: Midnight Paper Sales Press, 1987. Small quarto. (ii), 19, (1)pp. One of 174 numbered copies. Signed by Gaylord Schanilec on the colophon with his chopmark. As a witness to the region from which it originates, this piece documents the lifespan of the High Bridge, which spanned the Mississippi River in St. Paul, Minnesota. Through nine short stories derived from St. Paul newspapers and revised by Clayton Schanilec, the narratives surrounding the late-19th-century construction of the bridge come to life. These stories encapsulate the city's character of the era, giving voice to the impoverished eastern European communities displaced by development, the dangers of underwater construction, and the political and commercial tension underlying the project. Accompanying the stories are ten wood engravings illustrating the High Bridge's demolition in February of 1985. Printed in five to seven colors, these compositions together create a cinemagraphic sequence, offering views of the bridge from a variety of angles and climaxing with a two-page spread of the explosion. Their compositor, Gaylord Schanilec, owns and operates the Midnight Paper Sales Press, and has established himself as a fixture among American book artists. His work, as exemplified here, explores the life and landscape of the upper Mississippi region, with particular attention to historical anecdotes and natural science. Text composition-set in Plantin Monotype at the Out of Sorts Letter Foundry. Bound in full gray-blue cloth over boards with paper labels on front and spine at the Campbell-Logan Bindery. Upper board slightly splayed, else fine.

        Handwritten Manuscript War Baby

1987. fine. Original handwritten manuscript of the complete lyrics for War Baby. 3 pages, rectos only (the 3rd page with only 2 lines) of 8" X 10" ruled paper, 37 lines (233 words), neatly written in pencil, all in Jagger's own handwriting. Titled at the top, verse and bridge notations to the left. An authentic recording session draft, 1987, for his 2nd solo album Primitive Cool (his 1993 biography was also titled Primitive Cool). The band featured polished supporting performances by Dave Stewart, Vernon Reed, G. E. Smith, and Jeff Beck. Left edge trimmed 1/8" (no loss), 4 staple holes, else fine. I've bought and sold these rock & roll manuscripts for 35 years, and Jagger lyrics are mystifyingly rare (I guess he intentionally keeps them and chases after them). Those that are complete, published, recorded, staged, and for sale, are scarcer than the manuscripts of his analogous contemporaries, and War Baby is nothing less than his shot at an antiwar message, not up to the heights of Give Peace a Chance, or Blowin' in the Wind, but I've bought and sold a dozen manuscripts by various Beatles, and twice that many by Dylan, and this was the first (of only 3) Jagger manuscript I've seen for sale, with its ring of authenticity sure enough, for me to buy it (the other 2, at Sotheby's, 24 June, 2014, seemingly withdrawn on dispute over clear title (?), reaffirming that these are hard to buy and always will be.

        American Prospects

New York: Times Books, 1987. Trace wear, else fine in very close to fine jacket. The true First Edition, with the number line ending in 2 and the "first edition" slug present (most copies offered are later printings misidentified as firsts). Oblong quarto. A publisher's review copy, SIGNED by Sternfeld, with promotional material, including a black and white press photograph, laid in. Sternfeld's photo travelogue of America: the bleak and the beautiful. With the great dust jacket image of a fireman buying a pumpkin at a farm stand while a house burns in the background. Expanding upon Stephen Shore's Uncommon Places, Sternfeld turns seemingly banal landscapes into sublime American archetypes. Yet one gets the feeling looking at these pictures that Shore and Sternfeld's America is gone. The vast rural vistas have been replaced with exurban sprawl, Home Depot and Walmart, while the urban decay has morphed into million dollar Harlem condos with Starbucks just out of view. (Parr / Badger, v2, 35; Roth 260-261; Open Book 338-339).

        The Autobiography.

New York: Harmony Books, , 1987. Octavo. Original black cloth-backed grey boards, title in red foil to the spine, red endpapers. With unclipped dust jacket. Numerous black and white illustrations to the text. Boards a little bowed, jacket slightly loose, but overall very good. First edition, first impression. Presentation copy warmly inscribed on the title page by Berry to his high school friend Clarence Richmond, who loaned him his first guitar, and was later the best man at his wedding: "The best to you, Clarence, and thanks for my first guitar, that one started it all. From school mate Charles 1941. Chuck Berry, Dec. 1987. Will be at your next retirement for sure!" The inscription decorated with two smileys. Berry relates the loan of the guitar on p. 34: "Clarence Richmond, a classmate of mine, became more friendly and loaned me his father's abandoned four-string tenor guitar to learn on. It was my first touch of the string instrument and it kept me busy exploring the many songs I could pick out on it …The first song I practised and sang with was to be the backing for many, as it was the chord changes of the blues. The 'Three change' matched a million songs of which a couple of dozen I already knew the words to. With a little change of tempo or a different stroking of the rhythm, another couple of dozen were added, for example 'Worried Life Blues and 'Going Down Slow'". And so began the career of one of the founders of Rock and Roll. The book remained in the possession of Clarence Richmond until his death in 2001 when he left it to his wife Loretta, and on her death in 2016, an order of service for her funeral included here, it passed to her brother Gerald Snipes who made the decision to sell it. Accompanied by Clarence Richmond's Honorable Discharge certificate from the US Navy in 1946; his St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department lieutenant's badge and the gold watch presented to him in September 1987 upon his retirement from the SLMPD. A wonderful association copy.

        Baltasar and Blimunda.

New York: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Publishers, 1987. First American edition of Saramago's first book to be translated into English. Octavo, original cloth. Signed and dated by the author on the title page, "Jose Saramago 1.2006." Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket art by Giotto. Translated from the Portuguese by Giovanni Pontiero. The New York Times Book Review has said that Baltasar and Blimunda "[m]uch reverberates in memory after reading this enchanting novel, but most of all the love story which soars over the rest of the action like a flute above a heavy orchestra. Mr. Saramago, a writer of sharp intelligence, keeps this love story under strict control, free of pathos or sentimentality. It is of, and on, the earth." Indeed, "Saramago has produced a novel that is deeply imbedded in the history of his land yet moves in mystical realms. It is a romance and an adventure, a rumination on royalty and religion in 18th century Portugal and a bitterly ironic comment on the uses of power" (Walter Goodman, The New York Times).

Funny Farm (Original screenplay, director George Roy Hill's working copy)

Los Angeles: Pan Arts / American Broadcasting Company [ABC], 1987. Shooting script for the 1988 film comedy. Director George Roy Hill's working copy, with his typically profuse holograph notations throughout, as well as handwritten drafts and drawings for establishing shots, scene setups, screen credits, sequences, ideas, etc. Also included are 2nd Unit shot lists, Montage Arrangements, Staff and Crew List, a One Line Schedule, and internal memorandums (including an interesting summary of the cost for rights to various musical properties used in the film). A well-loved and overlooked comedy, in which Chase plays a sportswriter who moves his family to rural Vermont in order to write a novel. The townspeople, however, turn out to be more than a little eccentric, and the relative seclusion sought by the family is interrupted by one disaster after another. Materials housed in director Hill's plain black three-ring binder. Various loose materials in the binder pockets. Screenplay: orange titled wrappers; title page present, with credits for novelist Cronley and screenwriter Boam, and a date of 7/20/87. 131 leaves, photographically reproduced, with pink, blue, green, and yellow revision pages throughout, dated variously between 8/26/87 and 9/5/87 (some undated). Pages, wrapper, and binder Near Fine; loose inserted leaves Very Good plus to Near Fine.
