Signed by Dahl on the front free endpaper (ffep) without further inscriptions. Condition: very good in a good dust jacket. The book is internally clean. There is a small previous bookseller’s sticker at the bottom of the front paste down which could probably be removed; slight ‘ghost’ discolouration to the endpapers (where the dust jacket touches the papers). The boards have slight shelf wear and there is a whiff of foxing to the top page block. The dust jacket is clipped; there is a piece missing at the bottom and there are minor chips to the top edge. An exceptionally scarce book as a signed first edition. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

      - Zagreb: Lithographed by Globus 1982 (Text by ?GP Delo, Ljubljana) (Prints executed 1981). A rare monumental series of 41 folding colour lithographs accompanying a Croatian poem Jama (The Pit), one of the most powerful WWII lyrics, written by Ivan-Goran Kova?i? This 1982 version of illustrations was made by Croatian academic artists Edo Murtic and Zlatko Prica, the authors of the first illustrated edition, printed by a Partisan underground press during WWII. Number 82 of 200 examples, with each leaf numbered and signed by the authors. - This rare series of 41 monumental lithographies was mada in 1981 and 1982 by Croatian artists Edo Murtic (20 lithographs) and Zlatko Prica (21 lithographs), to accompany a poem Jama (The Pit), written during WWII by a Croatian poet Ivan-Goran Kova?i?, shortly before his death in 1943. The poem is considered one of the most powerful war lyrics ever written. Murtic and Prica already illustrated the famous first illustrated edition of Jama, published in 1944 by an underground Partisan press. This edition was only published in 200 examples. According to the imprint on the back of the text pages, the first 10 examples were kept by the authors, 20 examples were marked with roman numbers I-XX, and 170 examples were numbered with arabic numbers. This is example 82/170. Each lithograph of this edition is hand numbered and signed by one of the artists. Edo Murtic (1921–2005) is known as one of most active and internationally most recognized Croatian artists of the 20th century. Background of Jama - The poem Jama (The Pit) was written during WWII by a Croatian partisan Ivan Goran Kova?i?, and was first printed by a underground presses. The first illustrated edition was issued already in 1944, exactly a year before the liberation, and was accompanied with illustrations by Murtic and Prica. The author of the text, Ivan Kova?i?, with a nickname Goran, was born in Lukovdol in Croatia, on the southern Slovenian border to a Croatian father Ivan Kova?i? and Jewish mother Ruža, neé Klein. After unfinished study of Slavistics in Zagreb, he became journalist, writer and poet. In 1942 he joined the Partisans and participated in battles through the difficult terrain of Bosnia. In the months of seeing cruel battles and slaughtering of civilians, he wrote his most famous poem Jama (The Pit). This epic poem was inspired by a genocide made by the Croatian Nationalistic Army, Ustashe, upon the Serbian people. In first person, with cruel, yet beautiful verses, he describes torture, and eventual death as a part of mass killings. SEE OUR WEB SITE FOR A LONGER DESCRIPTION.

Art Flyers]: Paintings of Power and Beauty

San Francisco 1982 - A collection of 15 flyers promoting the First International San Francisco Armory Show directed by Beat Generation and San Francisco Renaissance artist Michael Bowen. Photomechanically reproduced flyers on 8.5" x 14" sheets. Near fine with slight edgewear from hanging. Each flyer advertises the event along with a different artist on each poster with a photocopied image of one of their works. The exhibition included 50 artists and over "5000 works of art." Among the artists were Melinda Gebbie, wife of Alan Moore, a comic book artist who was famous for her collaborations with Moore on Tomorrow Stories and Lost Girls. According to her website, "she uses comix storytelling to underline cultural movements which drift like her characters." Also featured are California surrealist painter, Guy Colwell, who became known for his strong portrayal of African-Americans; Henry Sultan, a California artist and "community muralist," who exhibited his "Art of the Mandala" during this run. Sultan's artist statement according to his webpage is, "I was never a hippie, I just looked like one."The festival was the brainchild of artist Michael Bowen, an important San Francisco Renaissance artist and friend to fellow counterculture figures such as Timothy Leary, Janis Joplin, and Wallace Berman. He was the co-founder of the underground newspaper the San Francisco Oracle, and founder and organizer of the Human Be-In. Bowen saw the month long exhibits as a means to display new and established talent side-by-side in a celebration of not only California art, but the international scene: "The First International San Francisco Armory Show offers a viable alternative to this double blind situation, presenting artists whose works are imbued with feeling, color, light and vision, evoking a sense of the unknown, creating possibilities and potentialities of the emergence of the New Man."An attractive collection of images.

Das Goldene Evangelienbuch von Echternach (Codex Aureus Epternacensis) Hs 156142 aus dem Germanischen Nationalmuseum in Nürnberg. Faksimile- und Kommentarband in 2 Bdn.

Zürich, Coron, Frankfurt am Main, S. Fischer und Stuttgart, Müller und Schindler. 1982 - Folio.

745 x 520mm. Giclée Print using Archival pigment inks on Hahnemüle Fine Art Pearl 285gsm paper. Limited edition of 10 numbered copies signed by the photographer. Alan Davidson is a press photographer based in London for more than 30 years, Alan has photographed the rich, the famous, the before-they-were-famous to those that have fallen from grace. Going through his vast archive, with new treasures found within the old brown manilla envelopes, reads like a who's who of the great and good (and the very bad) of London society. Cinema stars rub shoulders with pop stars, royalty with politicians. Working from the late 1960s to the present day Alan remembers the days before celebrities became surrounded by 30 young publicists and before there were 50 photographers at every event you went to, allowing him to take intimate and relaxed portraits, unlike the anodyne syndicated press shots of today.

        Different Seasons ***INSCRIBED***

New York: The Viking Press, 1982. 1st Edition, 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. 527 p. Inscribed by Author(s). First Trade Edition, first printing, inscribed by King in the year of publication on the title page: "For Sue - / With best, / Stephen King / 11/18/82." Different Seasons is proof of King's writing genius which can transition away from his standard horror genre and still delight us with not one, but four masterpieces of fiction, three of which were adapted into movies. "Hope Springs Eternal: Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" was filmed as "The Shawshank Redemption" in 1994 (perhaps one of the best "prison" films ever made); "Summer of Corruption: Apt Pupil" was filmed in 1998 as "Apt Pupil"; "Fall from Innocence: The Body" was filmed in 1986 as "Stand by Me"; the final novella, "A Winter's Tale: The Breathing Method" was the only one not filmed due to having more supernatural elements than the other three and therefore not easily lending itself to film. *** DESCRIPTION: Navy blue paper boards with the initials "SK" in copper on lower right corner of front, navy blue cloth spine with light blue and copper lettering, cream endpapers, pictorial dust jacket with price of $16.95, author's photo on back, jacket design by R. Reminiscences, many photographs and song lyrics, these latter often presented as facsimiles of the manuscript versions.Laid in is a colour picture postcard, in very good condition, of Trader Vic's restaurant in the Hilton Hotel, London, on the back of which Harrison has written: ''To Sharron lots of love, and I'll see you when your a bit older. George Harrison.'' The inscription presumably dates from before enlightenment came upon him. Also laid is one of Astrid Kirchherr's black and white photographs of three of the early Beatles (Harrison, Lennon and Sutcliffe) posed on and in front of a truck - this is reproduced in the book as plate VII. On the back of the photo is a faint copyright stamp and some glue marks.Very good indeed in near-fine dustwrapper.

Ill Seen, Ill Said (SIGNED, Limited Edition #137/299)

Ill Seen, Ill Said by Samuel BeckettThis is a pristine copy, tight and fine in its lovely marbled boards, with bright gilt-rule and lettering at the panels and spine. Also protected by a mylar dustjacket cover. Octavo, handsomely designed and printed by Henry Morris for the Lord John Press of Northridge. The 1982 First Limited Edition is numbered, and this is #137 of 299 copies - SIGNED by Samuel Beckett. This late work from Samuel Beckett is the haunting picture of an old woman alone in a cabin, who watches the evening and the morning star and ventures out chiefly to visit a grave. In prose of great poetic beauty, which the author translated from his original French text Mal Vu Mal Dit in 1982, Beckett returns to the imagery of the Old and New Testaments to speculate on the great questions of human existence. One of the great writers of the 20th century, Beckett won the Nobel Prize in 1969. He is remembered primarily as a novelist and playwright, producing Waiting for Godot and the trilogy Molloy, Malone Dies, and The Unnameable, though he was also a poet and, when he chose to be, a discerning critic of great originality. Beckett continues to exert a powerful influence on other writers and interest in his work has grown since his death in 1989.--------------------Samuel Barclay Beckett was an Irish avant-garde novelist, playwright, theatre director, and poet, who lived in France for most of his adult life. He wrote in both English and French. His work offers a bleak, tragicomic outlook on human nature, often coupled with black comedy and gallows humour. Beckett is widely regarded as among the most influential writers of the 20th century. Strongly influenced by James Joyce, he is considered one of the last modernists. As an inspiration to many later writers, he is also sometimes considered one of the first postmodernists. He is one of the key writers in what Martin Esslin called the "Theatre of the Absurd". His work became increasingly minimalist in his later career. Beckett was awarded the 1969 Nobel Prize in Literature "for his writing, which--in new forms for the novel and drama--in the destitution of modern man acquires its elevation". He was elected Saoi of Aosdána in 1984.

(PETTIBON, RAYMOND). Pettibon, Raymond, Nelson Tarpenny, Victor Gastelum & Josh Bayer (aka "Sketchy"). FREUD'S UNIVERSE. Lawndale, CA: SST Publications, 1982. First Edition 1/500. 8vo. Stapled Illustrated Wrappers. Artist's Book. Fine. np (32pp), 28 b&w illustrations. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. Raymond Pettibon first came to prominence during the late-seventies with his raw, literary-inflected imagery for Black Flag, Sonic Youth, and SST Records. Over the subsequent decades, the erstwhile Southern California artist has deservedly become an international contemporary art icon. "Limited to five hundred copies (of which some four hundred were destroyed)", "Freud's Universe" is his 1982 SST artist book cum 'zine that reproduces twenty-eight psychologically-charged drawings. A most handsome, guaranteed authentic example of this uncommon, early Pettibon tour de force (entry number four in Uwe Koch and Roberto Ohrt's "A Catalogue Raisonné of Artists' Books by Raymond Pettibon, 1978-98") HAND NUMBERED "270" in red ink by the artist on the front cover, as issued.         Original poster: "12 Años de Lucha"

N.p. [San Salvador?]: FPL, 1982. Poster celebrating the twelfth anniversary of the Fuerzas Populares de Liberación "Farabundo Martí" (FPL). The FPL was one of five Marxist organizations that joined, in 1980, to form the FMLN, which is today the mainstream left party of El Salvador. The still somewhat provisional nature of the alliance in 1982 may be gauged from the fact that in this poster the FPL continues to maintain its own identity, publishing under its own imprint and adding a caption in the lower margin "Miembro del FMLN." Photo-illustrated with five scenes from the Salvadoran civil war, including active scenes combat, surrounding a quote by the Communist revolutionary leader Cayetano Carpio (aka "Marcial"). Not found in OCLC, though web search does turn up a copy at IISH (Netherlands). Photolithograph in colors; 56.5cm x 37.5cm (ca 22-1/4" x 15-1/2"). A vivid, unfaded example, free of wear; Fine.

        Die Namen der Bäume: Hylaea

Eindhoven: Stedelijk van Abbemuseum, 1982. First edition. 8vo, 422 pp, bound in brown buckram with the title stamped in black at the spine. Illustrated with b/w and color plates. Of a total edition of 740 copies, this is one of 240 numbered copies with a signed and dated photograph housed in a folder at rear, which has also been assigned the name of a particular tree. This is copy number 116, and is the "Mimosenbaum" copy. The now rare limited edition of one of the most essential artist's books of the 1980's. The book, which was exhibited at Documenta 7, begins with a list of the names of South American trees, and then segues into a narrative, interspersed with photographs and found images, the product of the artist's 18 month exploration of a Yanomomi village in Venezuela, a community which at that time had almost no contact with the outside world. Like his fellow artist Marcel Broodthaers, whose work he shares a dialogue with (Broodthaer's postcard 'Veritable Eau de Cologne / Fuchs Mais Qui Mangera le Fromage?' was a response to Baumgarten's exhibition 'T'E-NE-T'E. Eine mythologische Vorführung'), Baumgarten's work critiques institutional representation, and also explores the anthropological implications of naming. Fine.
