        Codex Seraphinianus

Milano: Franco Maria Ricci Editore. 1981. First Edition. Hardcover. Edition limited to 4000 numbered copies. In two volumes each in clamshell box. Signed by the author on the colophon page. Full black silk with gilt titles and decorations on the front panels and the spine panels, color illustrations affixed to the front panels. Printed on special Fabriano paper. Publisher's letter in Italian, English, and French laid in. Both volumes are in fine condition. Probably the most famous of the titles published by Franco Maria Ricci and surely the most unusual. A masterpiece of fantasy painstakingly illustrating a non-existent world and written in a non-existent language which, at times, seems to be a surrealist parody of our own world. Serafini, an architect and graphic designer, wrote and illustrated the volumes during a two-year period in the late 1970s. A lovely set. ; Folio; Signed by Author .

[Original art work]: Johnny Rotten and Margaret Thatcher

[No place]: New West Magazine. [circa 1981]. Pen, ink, and collage on artist board. Image is approximately 9" x 9.75" mounted on larger artists board with opaque paper overlay with printing instructions, New West rubber stamp, and name of the art director (Nancy Butkus). A little bumped and soiled, but near fine. A particularly pleasing image of a tuxedoed and angelic-looking Johnny Rotten dancing the Charleston with a short-skirted and spiky-haired Maggie Thatcher as vinyl records fly about. Thatcher was the embodiment of pretty much everything the Sex Pistols were rebelling against. Suitable for, nay - crying out for, framing. .

Codex Seraphinianus - Deluxe Limited Edition

New York: Rizzoli, 2013. Limited Edition. Hard Cover. New. Serafini, Luigi. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. This is #263 of the deluxe numbered, limited edition of 600. It also includes an additional limited postercard (#38 of 150). Signed by Serafini. From the publisher: "An extraordinary and surreal art book, this edition has been redesigned by the author and includes new illustrations. Ever since the Codex Seraphinianus was first published in 1981, the book has been recognized as one of the strangest and most beautiful art books ever made. This visual encyclopedia of an unknown world written in an unknown language has fueled much debate over its meaning. Written for the information age and addressing the import of coding and decoding in genetics, literary criticism, and computer science, the Codex confused, fascinated, and enchanted a generation. While its message may be unclear, its appeal is obvious: it is a most exquisite artifact. Blurring the distinction between art book and art object, this anniversary edition-redesigned by the author and featuring new illustrations-presents this unique work in a new, unparalleled light. With the advent of new media and forms of communication and continuous streams of information, the Codex is now more relevant and timely than ever." Still in the publisher's shrinkwrapped shipping box. (I also have another identical "like new" copy of this book and poster without the original shrinkwrap available at $700.).

        GRAFFITI SKIRT

New York: Original Artwork c 1981 - Spray paint, marker pen and ink on a leather skirt. Painted circa 1981 for Joy "Joystick" Bouldin. Authentic hand painted clothing from the early days of hip hop are exceptionally rare.Cey Adams was a NYC subway writer in the late 70s and early 80s. He appeared in the historic PBS documentary "Style Wars" and studied at New York's School of Visual Arts. He emerged from train writing and was early into the gallery scene exhibiting alongside Jean Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. Cey was the founding creative director of Def Jam Recordings and worked with hip hop artists such as Run DMC, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z. Provenance: Joy "Joystick" Bouldin was a key figure in the New York club scene of the early 1980s. Aged 18, she arrived in New York and, eschewing her plans to go to college, found work at the Mudd Club. Here she was befriended by Andy Warhol, who introduced her to his inner circle, including Jean-Michel Basquiat (for whom she modelled) and Keith Haring. In 1982 she quit her job in a law firm to "work the elevator" at Danceteria. Deciding who to let in to the private club gave her a key position at the forefront of the emerging culture of the time, positioned at the intersection between fashion, Pop Art, Hip Hop and graffiti. Like key door-people everywhere, Joy knew everyone and everyone knew her. She came up with the idea of having the best known and most applauded graffiti writers, pop artists and musicians tag or draw on her clothing as they came in and out of the club. In doing so she created a wearable original artwork merging fashion, art and music that now also serves as a significant historical document. In true graffiti spirit, the writers wanted to be seen and learning of Joy's legendary art coats were keen to have their name displayed at the hottest club in town. As a result Joy was gifted items of hand-painted clothing in the hope she would wear them out. This skirt by Cey was once such item that she loved and wore regularly. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Genocide and Vendetta: The Round Valley Wars in Northern California

Norman, OK: University of Oklahoma Press, (1981). First Edition. Hardcover Hardcover. Very Good/Fine. 403 pages. An account of the often brutal interactions between white settlers and the Native Americans living in the Round Valley, in Northern Mendocino County, California. Since descendants of some of the worst offenders still live in the region, rumors of their attempts to supress the book abound, Its relative scarcity is due to a more prosaic chain of events. After an allegation of (unintentional) plagiarism was leveled against the section written by Estle Beard, the publisher investigated, agreed with the complaint, and withdrew the book from sale. Since both authors have since passed away, it seems unlikely that this book will ever be republished or converted into an e-book. The original hardcover is the only way to read about this troubled era in Northern California's history. First edition (first printing). A fine copy in a fine dust jacket. Review copy with publisher's review notice and press release enclosed.

Bergmann von Falun. Der Bericht von Gotthilf Heinrich Schubert und die Erzählungen von E. T. A. Hoffmann und J. P. Hebel. 18. Druck der Edition Tiessen.

Neu-Isenburg, Edition Tiessen, 1981.. Esteban Fekete (* 11. August 1924 in Cinkota/budapest/Ungarn - + 29. März 2009 in Dieburg) war ein bekannter deutsch-argentinischer Maler, Zeichner und Farbholzschneider.

Commencement. Kent State University, December 18, 1981

Kent, Ohio: Kent State University. 1981. First. First edition. Octavo. 42pp. Stapled illustrated wrappers. Slight age-toning on the wrappers, one pencil note in text, else very near fine. Commencement program that hides a literary hoax. On page 25, which lists the graduates from the University from the College of Arts and Sciences, the first listed of the six graduates in Geography is Nelson Springer Angstrom, the son of Rabbit Angstrom, both of whom existed only in the fertile mind of John Updike, who sent Nelson to Kent State in the third Rabbit book, Rabbit is Rich (1981). Updike corresponded with the assistant to the President of Kent State in order to gather details of the school for the book; the same employee was responsible for the University print shop, and awarded Nelson with a degree. Copy of a clipping detailing the hoax is laid in. Presumably missing from most Updike collections. OCLC locates a single run of the commencement program, but seems to lack any issues after 1963. .
