Codex Seraphinianus - Deluxe Limited Edition

New York: Rizzoli, 2013. Limited Edition. Hard Cover. New. Serafini, Luigi. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. This is #251 of the signed, deluxe numbered, limited edition of 600. It also includes an additional signed, limited artist card (#26 of 150). From the publisher: "An extraordinary and surreal art book, this edition has been redesigned by the author and includes new illustrations. Ever since the Codex Seraphinianus was first published in 1981, the book has been recognized as one of the strangest and most beautiful art books ever made. This visual encyclopedia of an unknown world written in an unknown language has fueled much debate over its meaning. Written for the information age and addressing the import of coding and decoding in genetics, literary criticism, and computer science, the Codex confused, fascinated, and enchanted a generation. While its message may be unclear, its appeal is obvious: it is a most exquisite artifact. Blurring the distinction between art book and art object, this anniversary edition-redesigned by the author and featuring new illustrations-presents this unique work in a new, unparalleled light. With the advent of new media and forms of communication and continuous streams of information, the Codex is now more relevant and timely than ever." Includes the publisher's original shipping box.

Uncle Scrooge McDuck - His Life & Times. Written and drawn by Carl Barks. Edited by Edward Summer. Recolered by Peter Ledger.

Millbrae, California: Celestial Arts 1981 - First Edition. Einführung (S. 1-25) eine Auswahl der klassischen Abenteuer "Back to Klondike" (mit Einfügung der gekürzten Panels als s/w-Skizzen sowie die Erstdrucke der ausgelassenen Seiten), "Trouble from Long Ago" (The Horseradish Story), "Tralla La", "The Seven Cities of Cibola", "The Lemming with the Locket", "Land beneath the Ground" (die seinerzeit ausgelassenen Seiten hier als Erstdruck, teilweise zur Kenntlichmachung in schwarz-weiß), "The second richest Duck", "Land of the Pygmy Indians", "Island in the Sky", "The many Faces of Magica de Spell", "Micro-Ducks from Outer Space", "Go slowly, Sands of Time" (kein Comic, sondern eine farbig illustrierte Story, hier als Erstdruck). [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Faces of the 20s. Portfolio of 12 signed prints

1981. Signed. ABBOTT, Berenice.Faces of the 20s. Portfolio of 12 Signed Gelatin Silver Prints.New York: Parasol, 1981.Rare limited portfolio of 12 large gelatin silver prints, number 35 of only 60 issued, each impressive print signed and numbered in pencil on the matt by Abbott—?"the dean of American photographers?"—featuring her legendary 1920s portraits of James Joyce, Eugène Atget, Janet Flanner, Jean Cocteau, Edna St. Vincent Millay and others, in the original clamshell box. This rare portfolio, one of only 60 issued, contains 12 large gelatin silver prints, each boldly signed on the matt by Berenice Abbott, ?"the dean of American photographers?" (New York Times). With these defining images Abbott illuminates the particular brilliance of major 20th-century figures such as James Joyce, Eugène Atget, Janet Flanner and Jean Cocteau. Abbott began her career in Paris, when in 1923 she took a job as darkroom assistant to Man Ray. Impressed by her skill he ?"offered Abbott his studio to make her own portraits, and soon her reputation rivaled his. Their styles differed— Man Ray excelled at stylization and abstract composition, while Abbott sought naturalness and spontaneity— and many sitters who hired Man Ray wished to pose for Abbott as well. ?'To be ?'done?' by Man Ray or Berenice Abbott meant you rated as somebody,?' remarked Sylvia Beach, proprietor of the avant-garde bookstore Shakespeare & Co. In 1926, after a well-received one-person exhibition at a small Parisian art gallery, Abbott opened her own studio… Playing an important role in the lively critical debate on photography and modern art, she forged her own artistic philosophy.?" That approach was further realized with Abbott?'s return to New York in 1929 and a series of cityscapes inspired by the Parisian images of Atget, a major ?"precursor of modern photography?" whose influence was assured through Abbott?'s efforts (Yochelson, Fantastic Passion for New York). This collection of Faces of the 20s is especially significant in its inclusion of Abbott?'s 1925 portrait of Atget, taken shortly before his death, and her iconic 1928 portrait of Joyce, seen in a pensive yet elegant pose—images that define both the genius and humanity of these two legendary artists. Also contained in this impressive portfolio are Abbott?'s portraits of her close friend André Gide, of Edna St. Vincent Millay framed by velvety blackness, a portrait of Janet Flanner in a whimsical top hat and one of her partner Solita Solano, a portrait of Jean Cocteau gesturing at the camera and an evocative print of his hands at rest, as well as Abbott?'s portraits of Princess Eugène Murat, drummer Buddy Gilmore, Mrs. Raymond Massey, and Princess Marthe Bibesco, a writer and close friend of Gide and Cocteau. These exceptional signed prints genuinely express Abbott?'s firmly expressed belief that ?"Photography helps people to see?" (New York Times). An impressive suite of 12 signed prints in fine condition.

        AN EASTER EGG HUNT

Hamish Hamilton, London 1981 - The book is dedicated to Clement [Crisp] & Peter [assumed partner] with a reference to page 128. Links to Ballet through Clement Crisp and page 128 refers to Macmillan, also linked with the Royal Ballet. [typed letter states]: August 27 1972 ~ Cavalier Hotel, 10724 Wilshire BLVD. Los Angeles. Calif. 90024. The letter is quite revealing about the inner workings of 'Hollywood': Dearest Clement - Oh such dramas at The Listener in our absence. In writing of those critics who rushed in to print on the day of the Garden press conference, Ted called them 'sour and silly'. An editorial lady, without consultation, changed it to 'foolish and spiteful'. Anxious to make the cap fit, Oleg wrote saying it must mean him. John Percival demanded an apology. All this was waiting for us on arrival here, asking for an immediate reply. Ted wrote one. Then a phone call - all the way from London dear - saying that Oleg was going to sue and they didn't want to print the reply. Please plug into the bush telegraph, and let the whole story be widely known! I hope yourholiday was divine. We had a marvellous drive accross through fantastic scenery, staying in what is known locally as 'lugjury', with knee high wall to wall shag (!), vanitory areas and personalised cocktails. When you have twenty four hours to spare we will show it to you on our home movie screen. We rode Western style in Yellowstone and stamped on the Utah salt flats and Harriet had to hold the teaspoons in her hand when going through metal detectors so that we could board those horrible aeroplanes. We are now settled here as if we have never been away, caught in the poolside social whirl. I actually have an office at Twentieth Century Fox, and I loll back in the gold plastic interior of our motor as Ted chauffeurs me in past the gate guards. He wears a peaked cap and I fling the imaginery white fox stole. It is all rather splendid. He is in the extraordinary situation of having Don Siegal, Dino de Laurentis and Hal Wallis all wanting to make Santa Fe. He wants Siegal to make it, and has flown to Carson City for talks while the current film is being shot and you can imagine the transAtlantic excitement Ted will also do the screen-play whichever one is selected! A daye has elapsed. A hideous evening yesterday when I gave up speaking. Every time I spoke someone shouted across me about what pills they were taking for what and when. Even when asked a direct question, no-one listened to my answer. RUDE HORRID PEOPLE. And the dinner was heavy and cold. There are times when I know that if I didn't keep a teapot for my Californian visitsI would not get past the afternoons sane. Ballet non existant except for Tania's classes. We went to see Follies, quite the worst and most sentimental piece ever produced, which got all the awards! So why do I love it? Now I want to be in Jackson's Lane but within three weeks I shall be ACHING to return. Much love to you and Peter. 'Gillian' [hand signed in blue ink]. Also a postcard signed again by Gillian Freeman. ~ Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good-. First Edition / First Printing. Minor edge and corner wear to the D/J, lightly scuffed and scratched, some chipping at the head and tail of the spine. Retains price of £6.95 net on inside prelim.         De Kafka à Kafka EDITION ORIGINALE SP pas de GP ENVOI AUTOGRAPHE

Paris: Gallimard, 1981. Fine. Gallimard, Paris 1981, 11x18cm, broché. - First Edition published only in paperback and for which he was not fired large paper one of the review copies. Touching and valuable autograph dedication signed by the author to his sister Marguerite glued on a card on the first guard: "Dear Marg, this book is not a book but if you put it in those dark days, my faithful, my deep affection. Maurice. " Envelope bearing the address of Marguerite Blanchot written by his brother Maurice glued on half-title page. Marguerite Blanchot, renowned organist Chalon Cathedral, remained all his life in the family home with his mother and aunt. "It will gradually become, for the family, as the memory of origins." Very close to Maurice, she regularly corresponded with the writer who reflects him great recognition for his dedication to their helpless mother. If intense affection Blanchot for his mother and his sister shines in dedications of it, we know almost nothing of their relationship. In the only biographical essay on Blanchot, Christophe Bident reveals, however: "Marguerite Maurice Blanchot worshiped his brother very proud of him, (...) it attached great importance to his political ideas (...) She read a lot (.... .) They phoned corresponded. A distance, they shared the same natural authority, the same concern for discretion. " Blanchot address him indeed many books from his library, now with her continuous intellectual link. A trace of marginal fold in the first flat foot. Nice copy. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate. Contact us for any information!

It contains four hundred and eighty-nine plates in full color, as well as thousands of black and white images ranging from storyboard sketches to entire sequences. In 1959, he and Jules Engel founded Format Films - the Hollywood animation studio best known for producing "The Alvin Show", "Popeye the Sailor", and "Road Runner", " Daffy Duck", and "Speedy Gonzales" theatrical cartoons for Warner Brothers. They also created title sequences for television series such as "I Spy", "Honey West", the animated characters on "Hee Haw, and many more. Klynn also collaborated on projects with author Ted "Dr. Seuss" Geisel, Academy Award-winning designer Saul Bass, and writer Ray Bradbury in creating "Icarus Montgolfier Wright".         Willem de Kooning - Mario Photographies Originales EDITION ORIGINALE

S.l.: Par l'auteur, 1981. Fine. Par l'auteur, S.l. 1981-1984, 22x22cm sur papier Ilford 30x40cm, 2 planches photographiques. - Diptych original photographic portraits in black and white made and drawn by Marc Trivier. The two photographs, taken facing are: - An original photographic portrait of Willem de Kooning in the United States in 1981 - An original photograph of Mario to Manage Psychiatric Hospital in 1984 Artist Portrait, d.. anonymous, crazy, slaughterhouse or tree: Marc Trivier photographed each subject with the same interrogative intensity. All made in the same square, elementary and closed without editing or cropping format photographs seem less staging a subject - famous or unknown, elected or deposed, living or dead - interrogate a presence. "What interested me was not just photographing a body or face, but this particular situation is someone doing the photo of someone else." By comparing portraits artists in their corresponding altered Trivier undresses the work of its effects and reveals the enigmatic photographic nude body. "In his cosmogony, every thing, every being, plant, animal or human, deserves the same respect for they are all facing the same iron law. Solitude." (Luke Desbenoit in Télérama, 05/03/2011 on the occasion of the retrospective Marc Trivier at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie). Silver prints unsigned, like most works of Trivier. Unique tests taken by the artist. A small trace of fold in upper margin, without damage to photograph Louis. Rare diptych of one of the greatest contemporary photographers. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate. Contact us for any information!
