Photomail from Tokyo / Shashin Tokkyubin Tokyo - SIGNED

Paroru-sha, Tokyo 1980 - 4to.; 113 photographs, some in color, including one large gatefold, illustrated endpapers, yellow wrappers printed in red, original photo-illustrated dust-jacket with original camp poster bound in at front. Light buckling at lower left wrapper corner, else fine.Signed in Kanji on front endpaper. Keizo Kitajima was a student of Daido Moriyama and showed with him at the Tokyo Camp gallery in the late 1970s. Recently showcased in a 2011 three-person exhibition at the Le Bal exhibition space in Paris, these high contrast grainy images of Tokyo nightlife and urban architecture show a strong post-Provoke style influenced by Moriyama and William Klein. Full bleed black and whites mix with raw color images to confirm Kitajima's reputation as one of the more important postwar Japanese photographers.         Chikan Densha / Sekigaisen Shashin Documents

Tokyo: Ohto Shobo (N.d., but c 1980s) - First Edition. Quarto. A combination of various perversions by three photographers and divided into three sections. The first section is completely unidentified: I had a team of Japanese experts looking at the book and checking on Japanese Google and there is simply no information. The second section is by Ikko Kagari, and the third is by a photographer named Kagerou Mutsuki. Fine in white wrappers and fine photo-illustrated pornographic jacket. (No obi, but since this is the only copy I have seen and no information exists about this book, there is no way to substantiate the existence of an obi. That said, I would guess there was one.)         Shashin Tokkyubin Tokyo / Photomail from Tokyo

Tokyo: Paroru-sha (1980) - First Edition. Small quarto. "Camp" poster bound in at front. While Kitajima's black and white photographs of Tokyoites have a decidedly Provoke sensibility, his color images signal a move away from Provoke towards a more Punk worldview. This transition becomes evident in Kitajima's next book, New York, which documents New York's East Village scene in the early eighties. Near fine in wrappers in a near fine jacket.

1100 gr. [Attributes: Soft Cover]

        Jevsovar

Galerija Suvremene Umjetnosti, Zagreb 1980 - Marijan Jevsovar (Zagreb, 1922.- 1998.) (Lit: Davor Maticevic: Marijan Jevsovar, Crtezi, Muzej suvremene umjetnosti, Zagreb, 1993.) ************************************************************************************************************** Marijan Jevsovar (Zagreb, 1922 - 1998). Besides his painting, he was accomplished graphic designer. This exhibition In Gallery of Contemporary Art in 1980 is important because it was the last time that all memebers of Gorgona made appearance as a group; Marijan Jevsovar, Julije Knifer, Djuro Seder, Josip Vanista, Ivan Kozaric, as well as theoreticians Dimitrije Basicevic Mangelos, Radoslav Putar and Matko Mestrovic. They even made a performance: 'Exchanging coats' and photographed themselves infront Jevsovar's works. Also at this exhibition, Jevsovar's works were displayed also on the floors of the Gallery and the author was making posters for the exhibition using Silk-screen tint. The posters were printed with title, place and time and Jevsovar added drawings. All posters are different, we don't know how many of them were made in total. The known items are now in three private collections. Here is comment by Davor Maticevic from catallogue for Jevsovar's exhibition in 1993, where Jevsovar displayed 5 drawings in Silk-creen tint from the exhibition in 1980: " Jevsovar's most radical drawings could be compared to the exploration of absurd and they are as elusive as other radical works inside the group 'Gorgona'. The analogies, however, exist within larger circle of authors, all of them participants in the activities of that group, such as Piero Manzoni, Lucio Fontana, Dieter Rot, Robert Raushenberg. The appearance in the pre-conceptual era is significant, because of the abandoned conventions about artwork functions, and because they substantiate the inqueries and beliefs of the new role of art media. On the basis of Jevsovar's individual position about general postulations, becomes apparent everything that the drawing could be: line in the relation to another line, to space, to surface and the new form - and rationalization of the absurd." (Lit: Davor Maticevic: Marijan Jevsovar, Crtezi, Muzej suvremene umjetnosti, Zagreb, 1993.)

WOMEN AND PHILANTHROPY - IN 19TH CENTURY ENGLAND

Clarendon Press, Oxford 1980 - A fascinating narrative which explores the previously neglected topic of the role British women played in developing charity bazaars and in managing philanthropic agencies in the nineteenth century. Based on a wide range of literary and statistical evidence, this study investigates their motives, methods and range of activities in an area previously dominated by men. Their increased influence, Prochaska contends, gave women the administrative experience needed to enter the business and professional world, and encouraged them to extend their activities to campaigns for such legal and moral reforms as women's suffrage. - Condition & Description: Original Dustjacket retains price to inner prelim. Colour has faded in a few places but the dustjacket is complete. Navy cloth boards with gold/gilt lettering to the spine. These are in a very nice clean condition. 301 pages are beautifully clean throughout and ends with an in-depth index. [Finally: This book was written by a man ! - Yes it was - FRANK K. PROCHASKA!!] [How good is that?, can't help myself!]. - END. --- MAKE ME AN OFFER --- This is a rare work on how important feminism was during 19th century England and the price shown is what I would like to get for the book, but as with any of my books: I am open to any reasonable offers. Book and portfolio housed in publisher's original cardboard shipping box."Within the two-dimensional plane of the photograph itself, Brett has an equally rare capacity to create rhythms and dynamics in what we know to be perfect stillness. It is done of course, through the relationship of one form to another-powerful to weak- within the picture. Only the full exploitation of the black-and-white spectrum can accomplish such movement or- when he has chosen- the Zen-like immobility of ponds, harbors, canals, and other landscapes. An intriguing quality in Brett's work is that the greater the distance his lens encompasses, the less movement there is. The closer the subject, the more intense the rhythmic relationship." (R.H. Graduale: OLdr. auf 3 echten Bünden m. 2 Leder- Schliessen, Eisenbeschlägen u Mittelrosette; Kommentarbd in OHLdr. Schönes Exemplar. Eines von 980 num. Exemplaren. GRAPES AND GRAPE VINES OF CALIFORNIA. A Facsimile of the Original Edition of 1877. With an Introduction by Kevin Starr.

John Windle Pub. Co., San Francisco 1980 - no.12 of a limited edition (see details below), 20 x 14½ inches, 10 colour plates by Hannah Millard each with its own description, xi pages of a new introduction + (iii) pages of the preface to the original, top edges gilt, cloth covered boards with morocco spine, marbled endpapers, slip-case slightly worn at the corners, there is a note in pencil in the publisher's hand on the final blank that "This is the last copy from my inventory. One personal copy is being bound for me." NOTE:- The folio Windle edition, originally planned to be limited to 300 copies for sale (100 bound and 200 loose in a portfolio) and 10 hors commerce was, in fact, never completed. Only 25 were bound and 40 in portfolio. A quarto edition was published elsewhere later. The original edition, published by Edward Bosqui in 1877, is itself very scarce. It is believed to have been a small edition and that few complete sets were assembled. Of those, a significant proportion seem to have been lost or irreparably damaged in the earthquake of April 1906. As John Windle, the publisher of the 1980 edition, states on the limitation page, he examined every known copy in the United States. Of these 14 copies, 8 were damaged, stained, foxed or imperfect. Only 6 were perfect. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Kenzaburo Oé (prix Nobel de littérature)- Michel. Photographies Originales.

[Attributes: First Edition]
