Documents on Australian Defence and Foreign Policy 1968-1975

Self published, 1980, Hardcover (Original Cloth), Book Condition: Very Good Condition, Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good, First EditionAn extremely rare book that has accumulated a little history of its own. Munster and Walsh braved the fury of the Australian Government, and following the book's publication, the Government issued an interim injunction to ban the book, citing both the Crimes act and the Copyright act. Copies of the first edition, of which this is one, were impounded and they even went as far as to also seize the print runs of newspapers that reproduced extracts. The Government seemed especially uncomfortable with certain details in the book, dealing with Australia's involvement with the Indonesian invasion of East Timor. An extremely important work. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Dust Jacket is in very good condition, without tears or chips or other damage. Dust Jacket un-clipped. Edges very slightly spotted or marked. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilogram. Category: History; Australia; Australian History; Antiquarian & Rare. Pictures of this item not already displayed here available upon request. Inventory No: 4861.

        Midnight's Children

London: Jonathan Cape,, 1980. Octavo. Perfect bound into original blue wrappers printed in black. Housed in a dark blue flat back cloth solander box with chemise by the Chelsea Bindery. Name written in ink on the otherwise blank backstrip, few marks and the odd crease to the wrappers but excellent. Uncorrected proof copy for the unpublished Cape edition. Rare. Cape planned the production of their edition of this title in their entirely customary way but at proof stage became concerned about the cost involved and abandoned the publication before printing. They chose instead to import 1000 sets of sheets of the US edition which they issued with a cancelled title page and in the Cape binding and dust jacket. This uncorrected proof state represents the earliest printed for of Rushdie's masterpiece and is of notorious scarcity. A brief comparison of the proof and published texts has revealed numerous substantive differences.
